One late afternoon, this pair of Nanday Parakeets were part of a raucous crowd of Nandays that "cleared out" (chased away) all of the native birds at Celery Fields, Florida.

The plain parakeet is a species of parrot in the family Psittacidae endemic to Brazil. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, subtropical or tropical moist montane forest, and heavily degraded former forest. It is common in the urban areas of São Paulo and Curitiba in South Brazil.

This is a Monk Parakeet we saw in Barcelona. We saw a few in Athens as well.

 

Coming from the north we had not seen them before and we loved them.

But they seem to be a menace in the countries they settle in. It is considered an invasive species 🤔

Layard's parakeet (Psittacula calthrapae) is a parrot which is a resident endemic breeder in Sri Lanka. The common name of this bird commemorates the British naturalist Edgar Leopold Layard; his first wife, Barbara Anne Calthrop, whom he married in 1845, is commemorated in the specific epithet.

Found mainly in south-east England, particularly Surrey, Kent and Sussex. In London, parakeets are everywhere and their populations are spreading throughout the UK and Europe. It is estimated that there are 8,600 breeding pairs in the UK.
