Seguramente que en Europa es fácil conseguir las variedades maravillosas de las rosas Meillant cultivadas y producidas por la mencionada familia quienes son ingenieros agrónomos dedicados a la producción de maravillosos híbridos. ,El cultivar procede del cruce de 'Chrysler Imperial' (Híbrido de té, Lammerts, 1952) x 'Charles Mallerin' (Híbrido de té, Meilland) y El cultivar fue desarrollado en Francia por el prolífico rosalista francés Alain Meilland que lo presentó , en 1963 y lo bautizó con este nombre, en honor al fundador de la empresa, padre de los actuales dueños .
Sus delicadas flores de color rojo oscuro,tienen la forma de perfecto cono... Fragancia fuerte a rosas antiguas y un diámetro medio de 3" . Hace unos años pude cultivar algunas variedades de rosales Meillant, que llegaron importadas desde Francia a "raíz desnuda" y prosperaron bellamente en el jardín de mi casa. Hace un mes he repuesto algunas más, son cultivares nuevos y alguno que habia perdido...Ay!! estoy deseando ver sus floraciones que siempre son espectaculares.

California quail were first introduced to NZ in 1862 in South Auckland. They spread in most parts of NZ despite a low survival rate in chicks. This year I had a family move into my garden, but unfortunately several of the chicks appear to have not survived. The family now consists of only one remaining chick. They forge in my courtyard and the papa always stands guard on the fence and warns them of any danger. They have become familiar with my presence, that I will bring them no harm.

It's only 6:15 in the morning when 418 332 leaves Papa with R 9239 under a dramatic sky. The line Celldömölk - Papa - Györ still sees a lot of semaphores and at least some loco hauled trains.

For those who celebrate Father's Day, Happy Father's Day!
Did you know that this special celebration originated in Spokane WA?
Father's Day is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year on June 16th, and it all began when a young woman wanted to honor her dad.
In May of 1909, Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Wash., sat in church listening to a Mother's Day sermon. She decided she wanted to designate a day for her dad , William Jackson Smart. Dodd's mother had died in childbirth, and Dodd's father, a Civil War veteran, had taken the responsibility of singlehandedly raising the newborn and his other five children.
The following year, Dodd wanted to celebrate Father's Day on June 5th, her father's birthday, and petitioned for the holiday to be recognized in her city. Needing more time to arrange the festivities, Spokane’s mayor pushed the date back by two weeks, and the first Father's Day was celebrated on June 19th, 1910.
Finally President Lyndon Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation honoring fathers in 1966, but it wasn't until 1972 that President Richard Nixon signed the public law that made it a permanent holiday. Since then, Father’s Day has become a time to recognize the many different father figures in our lives.

Burrowing Owl near my home. The whole neighborhood has been waiting for the chicks to show (as papa waits) and the unfortunate folks that recently purchased the lot have to wait until the chicks fly away. Then they can build their dream home here. These owls are a protected species in Cape Coral, Florida.
