Make your own Easy Pallet Picture Display Board - or make two - one as a gift; one for you! This is a fast and fun project with endless possibilities!

How to make your own Easy Pallet Picture Display Board:

I took a few pallet boards, planed & sanded them. I cut them to length with my compound miter saw, glued them together & clamped them for about an hour. I wanted to give some extra time for the glue to set since there was going to be some heat.

Now the fun part: I fired up a torch with a short fat bottle of propane - the kind you buy for camping. I torched them to my liking. Once they were charred the way I wanted, I gave the unit a few coats of boiled linseed oil, waited a while & wiped it off. Always use extreme caution with torches - wear protective clothing and safety goggles, and be sure to keep this project away from other flammables!

I love the charred/oiled finish, as it really highlights the stunning wood grain. However, you could finish the wood any way you wanted - paint, stains, or even covered in a fabric of your choice! You are only limited by your imagination.

I installed a picture hanger consisting of a wall hook, a connecting wire, and two eye screws. I used my saw to cut down one pin shorter than the other on some ordinary wooden clothes pins. I did this to get into the thicker wood. With a drill & small drill bit, I added pilot holes to all the clothes pins & attached them with small wood screws.

It was an item that was on an order list of my Mom's plans for gifts. She liked it so much that she kept it and ordered another one. I made it as a Christmas present.

To go with my rustic bar, I decided I needed a Pallet Mirrored Liquor Rack as well. Since I had the perfect space on the wall behind the bar, I decided to modify a full pallet to suit my idea.

How I made this Pallet Mirrored Liquor Rack:

First, I found another pallet - and one with a couple of broken deck boards would be great! Next, I removed a couple of the bottom boards and the spacer blocks. I turned the spacer blocks around so that the branded markings were visible. I thought my design was somehow lacking, so I ordered an antique, Texas-themed mirror and mounted it to the center of the pallet. I made the little retaining racks for the liquor bottles out of discarded lengths of rebar. I found the rebar from concrete driveway construction sites! I have more plans for my outdoor bar, but I'm very happy with my Pallet Mirrored Liquor Rack and wanted to share! I'm satisfied with the outcome so far and hope you like it. Stay tuned for more updates... :D

I have for a long time used pallets for my paintings instead of canvas or MDF boards. I like the rough surface because it gives the message to the art a new dimension. For me, the pallets have become a symbol for the wasted, not needed and worked out. With my art, I want to give the forgotten a new purpose, a face and beauty!

Don’t pay a fancy designer store prices for “reclaimed” or “shabby-chic”, poor-quality products. Make your own Pallet Bathroom Makeover, and give your bathroom a gorgeous facelift for under 20 bucks!

The inspiration for my Pallet Bathroom Makeover:

I made these because I was tired of looking at the same old bathroom for 25 years. First, I started with redesigning the bathroom mirror. The primary material is pallet wood. I used chipboard/flakeboard as the backing so I could build it and then install it over the existing mirror. It was important to me to find deck boards with a lot of character. During assembly of the frame, I put a couple of small pieces of wood in between the longer frame pieces and added additional support underneath to create small, decorative shelves.

Also, I had a little fun with arranging the wood grain in two different directions, as well as cutting down more deck boards into approximately 1” strips to trim out the wider boards. It just added a little interest in my opinion.

Next, I sanded, removing the rough areas and splinters, but kept some of the beautiful pallet texturing. I stained it all in a Golden Pecan and applied two coats of polyurethane.

Pallet Bathroom Makeover – the wall sconces & towel rack:

Next was the wall sconces. To make the sconces, I glued three smaller pieces of deck boards together and clamped them after cutting the center boards slightly longer to give that rustic look, but have the consistency of a matched set. I allowed them to dry and mounted a trimmed-down piece of deck board horizontally to provide support. Then I mounted two small eye hooks on the top for a place to install chain so I could hang them on the walls.

To make the lights, I used mason jars, painted the tops and wrapped a piece of thick wire around the neck of the jars, securing it with a twist at the backs after running the wire through pieces of chain. I used battery-powered flickering tea lights, so I didn’t have to deal with messy candle clean-up. The final piece of this part of the project was two larger cup hooks to hang the jars from.

The towel rack was a fun idea. I cut pieces of logs and drilled out holes to hold a wooden dowel, and mounted them on the wall.

Pallet Bathroom Makeover – the tissue box:

I wasn't happy with the plain old tissue box, so I made a pallet box to keep it in. So, I simply butt-joined four pieces, cut slightly larger than the dimensions of the larger, rectangular tissue boxes and attached them together with screws around another deck board that created the bottom. I chose wood with lots of defects and old hardware (and hardware stains!) purposely. Next was the top of the tissue box. This time, I mitered the corners. You could glue or use fasteners as this is not a weight-bearing piece. Also, you could recess hinges if you wanted, or just use it as a box weight and let it simply sit on top of the tissue box.

Pallet Bathroom Makeover – side table and medicine cabinet door:

Next, I made the little table from pallet wood, inspired by a table I saw in a little shop located in Indiana. This is a very simple style of table, but I raised the elegance by tapering the legs and used a wide deck board that had some live-edge as a decorative touch. I cut two pieces of wood into rough square shapes to provide a base of the frame. I cut the legs to the height I wanted and then tapered them. Next, I screwed them to the two square wooden pieces, securing with screws. I added the table top of the live-edge board and mounted it from underneath so I wouldn’t have screws marring the top.

Lastly, I covered the medicine cabinet using lightweight veneer and pallet wood glued to the mirror. I used a little scrap of wood to carve a little handle and glued it in place. And the cost of this Pallet Bathroom Makeover? TEN BUCKS. I hope you like my Pallet Bathroom Makeover - we are proud of it!

Editor’s Note: Very nice job, indeed! PS - Did you make the wooden rubber-band shooters too?

Recently, Alyssa and Matt of Simply Pallets gave one sixteen year old girl the birthday present of a lifetime!

The girl's mother reached out to Alyssa and Matt hoping they could use their ability to turn pallet into art and make Gotham City on pallet wood.

Using standard size pallet boards, they created two pieces, totaling 64" across and 36" high. The boards were cut, sanded, then placed on supports to create a wooden "canvas".

Next, Alyssa used Golden Pecan and Red Oak wood stain to create the Gotham City image. She did the entire painting free-hand- THERE IS NO PAINT ON THAT CANVAS!!! You can view a time lapse of the painting from start to finish here:

youtu.be/Y87YSfwK2As

Finally, letters provided by the customer were glued to the bottom of the painting. After everything was done, the painting could easily be hung on the wall with key-hole hooks, even though it weighed close to fifty pounds!

Gotham City never looked so good!

www.1001pallets.com/2016/09/high-tech-devices-low-tech-pa...

When Digital marries Pallet Wood, you can put High-Tech Devices in Low-Tech Pallet Frames. I have been working on some projects that put together the idea of the digital devices we use and how to make them look rustic or less modern. This is my first creation: 4 digital picture frames placed into one single wood frame.

About my Pallet Frames:

Of course, I use pallet wood. I used a technique of pressing the wood hard against the table saw to create some burnt areas while I split the pallet wood planks. Next, I ripped the deck boards down to approximately 1 1/2" for the thickness, but you could rip them down to any size you wanted. Finally, I put the frame pieces in so that they almost resembled window mullions.

Next, I sanded the frame pieces gently, preserving the saw character and natural interest of the pallet wood. I dampened a cloth with stain and just kind of went to town on the piece. I ended up staining the front and back.

Finishing touches on the Pallet Frames:

I ended up routing out the wider deck boards on the back. This allowed the SD cards and power cords to connect to the back of the picture frames. Otherwise, the deck boards held in the digital frames. The picture frames where measured and the wood cut just right so the wood wedges the pictures in place. Well, it is pallet wood, so it was almost perfect... but some tape and wedges on the back fixed the imperfection.

The picture frames used to be some red color. I used a can of matte-finish black spray paint to take care of that pesky red color.

Hope you like, and it inspires you to marry more technology with rustic wood!

Editor's note: We love that you were courageous enough to show us that even when working with imperfect pallet wood, you can adapt and conquer any pallet project like these digital & pallet frames. PS - keep these digital/wood marriages coming - they're very interesting!

We wanted to do something a little different and fun to dress up our TV. We made this Pallet-Framed Stage and made our TV a real Home Theater adventure! It's just a simple butt-joined frame, with simple curtains on a wire curtain rod, but it makes visitors laugh. :)

Pallet-Framed Stage:

I cut deck boards down into sizes I wanted for this TV frame first. Then, I sanded the boards and mounted them together with screws. Pre-drill your holes, so the wood doesn't split. I finished this project with a homemade set of curtains and applied a wood oil to give it a soft sheen.

Make your room seem larger on a budget by building an Oversized Rustic Pallet Mirror. The large metal brackets at the mitered corners and large chain give it an industrial edge, while the mitered corners make it look finished. Add a soft whitewash stain and highlight the defects to make it a centerpiece.

Oversized Rustic Pallet Mirror - Beautiful Home Decor on a Budget!

You can hang it with a chain, use a wall-hanging kit, or simply prop it up in a corner for an edgy look!

Cut four deck boards to the dimensions you desire and miter the corners. Sand the surfaces to your liking and install corner brackets to secure the frame after checking square. Install a mirror on the backside of the mirror mounting brackets, and add hardware to mount a chain. Hang it anywhere you need to brighten up a room!

WOW, we hope this inspired you to add some home decor. Here's another idea for a unique, personal Wall Art piece.

www.1001pallets.com/2016/07/mitered-pallet-frame/

I made this unique and easy Mitered Pallet Frame in about an hour, and didn't even need a full pallet to do it! I really like my little piece of art, and want to do more pallet projects!

I found a few pallets here and there and my little Hyundai 2 door was just the right size to fit a couple of pallets into, but a lot of work 1) finding them and 2) getting them apart! When I was looking at the pile of wood I had, after all, that, I couldn't think of what I could do with those few wood panels that would justify hauling and dismantling them both... but well, I have to admit that Home Depot took pity on me and has sent several (8, I think) boxes of vintagey-looking pallet wood, but with no nails or unwanted crazy splits or anything, already stained, but unevenly, so that they look more like pallet wood that just happened to be pretty enough and useful. Well, when I saw this pile of cartons sitting on my front stoop, I couldn't stop the ideas from coming! So, I'm here to show off my initial piece of 'pallet wood' from Home Depot!

This Mitered Pallet Frame was fast and fun:

First, I had to find the pallets. I located some and hauled them to my home. After that, I had to take them apart, check for remaining nails, etc. and stacked them. I finished the prep on the wood, and then I cut a few pieces on the miter saw and played with different joint styles until I liked the finished product. I sanded it down smooth; then I installed some simple retaining hardware for the picture and the glass covering it. I like my new frame and wall art!

I feel like now that I've started building with pallets, the ideas just keep coming! This is an exciting and fun hobby to get into!

I made this louvered Pallet Shadowbox Lamp so I could make some fun mini-displays. This lamp was made of pallet wood. The little people are just from a mini railway decoration set.

Make your own Pallet Shadowbox Lamp and highlight any important piece of art, awards, or collectible you want to show off!

First, dismantle a pallet. Next, cut the boards to the length you want for the back of the box. Next, cut the sides & end pieces to create a shadow box. Make it whatever depth you want, but we made this one fairly shallow. Just allow enough room for the lamp kit and bulb! Then, I cut three pieces and turned them into little louvers on the front of the box to hide the lamp kit. Be sure to pre-drill/cut out the lamp kit hole you need. Your kit should come with a template. Attach the boards together with glue and finish nails. Install the light kit and finish with some trim pieces. We mitered the trim pieces for a more finished look but didn't sand the boards too much. Stain as you desire to match your home decor.

Thanks for sharing this fun idea! Here's another idea - a pallet TV stand!

www.1001pallets.com/2016/12/beautiful-endgrain-inlay-bath...

I wanted to update our bathroom but didn't want to spend a ton, so I made this Bathroom Vanity Set from three pallets. An end grain inlay was added to the front of the cabinet doors to make it truly unique and interesting.

Bathroom Vanity Set - Mirror Frame:

I made the mirror frame using wood glue and joined it together with pocket screws. I built a simple jig for my belt sander to smooth out the edges of the pallet boards. Next, I used a belt sander, followed by a finishing sander on the back frame. I used a router on the two side pieces using a Roman ogee bit and did the same for the shelves and light fixture frame. I upcycled light fixtures that were already there from a previous mirror frame. So, all I had to do was switch off the power, disconnect the light fixtures and insert them into the new frame. I finished the frame with linseed oil to help bring out the natural grain.

Bathroom Vanity Set - Cabinets:

I don't have a jointer or table saw or a sufficiently long straight router bit for what I had in mind. So, I used a sliding miter saw to get the edges as smooth as possible. Next, I glued several deck boards together and clamped them firmly. I then cut across the grain to get the centerpieces that I wanted to "inlay" into the doors. Then I had to do more glue and clamping. I used the miter saw again to get the top and bottom straight, and repeated it for the side panels of the cabinet. Additionally, I used some scrap plywood for the base and countertop part, which I routered using a round-over bit.

Bathroom Vanity Set - Finishing it up:

I basically eyeballed the cut to fit around the sink, and haven't sealed it with silicone yet. All the joints were attached with numerous pocket screws. Additionally, I finished the cabinets like the mirror using several coats of Linseed oil.

My roommate and I are both in Air Force ROTC, and we are both aspiring pilots. We also happen to have the same favorite airframe, the A-10 Warthog. I got bored while home on summer break so I took a single pallet and made this for our living room at school. I'm sure this has been done before, but I just thought I would share because I am pretty much in love with it.

The actual work time is probably only 3 or 4 hours, but I was using a 60-year-old scroll saw that did not cut very well. The paint is just whatever was on sale at Ace, and I weathered it (or at least tried) with some Minwax Cherry stain. Then I put on a couple of coats of clear coat, which was also on sale at Ace. The whole project cost me like $10 and took the better part of a day from very start to very end.

I made the outline of the Warthog by finding a picture on Google Images and then uploading it to www.blockposters.com. Then I just cut it out with a Xacto knife and taped it to the boards.

This Pallet Television Frame is elevated by the beautiful pyrography applied to the surface. We only used one pallet to build this. Instead of woodburning, the patterns could be painted or stenciled on as an option.

Pallet Television Frame:

First, start with a pallet. Depending on the pallet size, you may not have to do any disassembling. Next, cut out the opening needed for the item you wish to frame. We kept the outer deck boards and end boards in this case; all others were removed. Next, sand the boards down as smooth as you like. It is easier to do pyrography on a smoother surface, or else you tend to fight the grain, splinters, etc. To finish, we did some simple pyrography artwork; a climbing vine and leaf pattern; a sunburst, and our logo, of course. However, you can make the pattern be whatever you want; to reflect your personal taste and style.

I take used pallets, in good condition, and I love seeing the potential in it and I get inspired by our sea life and what I make is a unique one of a kind piece of art embracing the woods characteristics and using my paint/stain technique and cutting the center out using the negative space. Then finishing with an LED lighting behind it. Battery powered / remote controlled.

The process is tedious and as I mentioned I choose from 100's of pallets to find the right ones for each project. Tearing apart the pallet is the fun part (not really) but I choose to use a circular saw to get them apart along with your trusty hammer and crow bar. After deciding on what to cut out, I sketch the design out on the boards and then start to cutting.

Resulting is a one of a kind piece that everyone seems to love and I'm lucky e Pugh to have made many of these for many families and business. I would love to take any questions directly so please check out my website StellerArtWorks.com to see all my creations.
