Earlier I posted a sunset picture with poink clouds taken at this spot. Then the clouds disappeared and a very clear blue hour appeared. In the photo the 2 windmills of Dokkum; Zeldenrust and De Hoop.

Les jolies fleurs de mes plants de Cabaret Good Night Kiss (Balcabooni), un cultivar de la série calibrachoa ou Million Bells (Calibrachoa × hybrida) qui ornent mes boîtes à fleurs.
Cette plante compte parmi les annuelles les plus populaires au monde. Pendant presque deux siècles, les calibrachoas étaient placés dans le genre Petunia, car les deux plantes appartiennent à la même famille, celle des Solanacées, et partagent beaucoup de caractéristiques, notamment des fleurs en trompette. Comme les deux plantes ne sont pas interfertiles, en 1985 les botanistes D.O. Wijnands et J.J. Bos proposèrent officiellement de scinder le genre Petunia en deux en se basant sur le nombre de chromosomes.
Le genre Petunia comprend désormais les 21 espèces dont le nombre de chromosomes en phase haploïde (n) est 7. Le genre Calibrachoa, nommé pour le botaniste et pharmacien mexicain Antonio de la Cal y Bracho (1764-1833), comprend les 28 espèces dont le nombre haploïde (n) est 9. Et normalement, les végétaux (et les animaux) doivent partager le même nombre de chromosomes pour produire une descendance.
Visuellement, on peut assez facilement distinguer les calibrachoas des pétunias d’après la taille de leurs fleurs. Celles des calibrachoas ne mesurent qu’environ 2,5 à 3 cm de diamètre alors que, typiquement, les fleurs des pétunias sont deux ou même trois fois plus grandes.
D’autres différences existent. Par exemple, la gamme des couleurs naturelles des pétunias est relativement limitée (blanc, violet et rouge), bien que, grâce à 150 ans d’hybridation, elle soit beaucoup plus étendue qu’à l’origine.
Les calibrachoas sont offerts en presque toutes les couleurs de l’arc-en-ciel dans la nature et encore davantage en hybridation. De plus, les calibrachoas hybrides n’ont pas de poils collants sur les feuilles et les tiges et elles résistent bien à la pluie, contrairement aux pétunias.

Les fleurs doubles de mon rosier Rosier Flower Carpet (Rosa x 'Flower carpet)' de couleur rose foncé.
Le rosier Flower Carpet est un arbuste d'ornement cultivé pour la longue floraison qu'il produit. On en fait la plantation en plein soleil, mais tolère la mi-ombre, dans un sol fertile, frais et bien drainé. C'est un rosier couvre-sol qui orne le centre de ma plate-bande. Le feuillage caduc est fait de feuilles ovales, dentées, brillantes, de couleur vert sombre. La floraison prolongée, de juin à octobre, produit des fleurs doubles groupées au bout des tiges.
Il nécessite peu d'entretien, car on doit simplement l'arroser pour éviter que le sol ne se dessèche, et tailler les fleurs fanées. Il est résistant aux maladies, et on contrôle les pucerons en le pulvérisant d'un savon insecticide. Il est conseillé de le tailler du 2/3 au printemps.

I know, right? A Tulip farm in Texas! I will say this, it ain't Holland, ya'll! Plus I got a sunburn on my face, and my hair is a knot filled rat's nest with the crazy wind, and it gave me chapped lips. A textured pink rock about the size of a big can of Spam at the base of the dunes. I'm not sure what type of rock it is, but it is very conspicuous among the other brown, black and earth-tone stones that emanate from and tumble down the cliffs.
Looks like a big hunk of Spam to me!
