The drones have arrived for Vivid Sydney 2023.

And it was standing room only.

Campbells Cove, 'The Rocks'.

Sydney.

I have never seen this many people jammed into the harbourside. Not even for New Year's Eve. It was ridiculous.

And I actually thought that the projections of birds and flowers onto the harbour bridge pylons were more 'vivid' than the drones.

See above in the image.

But who am I?

The drones are here.

It's a bit like AI.

Photographed from the Oiverseas Passenger Terminal, Level 2, where - hours before - I had secured a small spot for the Canon and I, lol.

On this day in April, 2003, I took guest from overseas on an excursion to Cronulla, Port Hacking and the Royal National Park on the south side of Sydney. We too a ferry across Port Hacking to Bundeena where we explored, took photos and had lunch.

USA 2016

We went to USA in September 2016. These next set of images are from just a few of the places that we visited. It is a fantastic place to explore. These images are from Boston and other places and represent a few of the buildings and architectural features that were photographed at the time.

This is the first of two postings.

Our last day in Bangkok today as we are off on our travels tomorrow. Staying tropical for our first year away from home but going overseas for a very different kind of Christmas. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and best wishes for 2019!

Surrounded by endless blues, a lonely fortress cradled by tides...

The Eastern Gray Squirrel is native to the eastern and midwestern United States, and to the southerly portions of the central provinces of Canada. It is found from New Brunswick, through southwestern Quebec and throughout southern Ontario plus in southern Manitoba, south to East Texas and Florida. Breeding eastern gray squirrels are found in Nova Scotia, but whether this population was introduced or came from natural range expansion is not known.

A prolific and adaptable species, the eastern gray squirrel has also been introduced to, and thrives in, several regions of the western United States and in 1966, this squirrel was introduced into Vancouver Island in Western Canada in the area of Metchosin, and has spread widely from there. They are considered highly invasive and a threat to both the local ecosystem and the native squirrel, the American red squirrel.

Overseas, Eastern gray squirrels in Europe are a concern because they have displaced some of the native squirrels there. They have been introduced into Ireland, Britain, Italy, South Africa, and Australia (where it was extirpated by 1973)

FRANCE 2018

Earlier this year we took a wonderful trip to France. We stayed in a small seaside town called Wimereux, between Calais and Boulogne. It was a lovely place, great food, beach and people. We enjoyed the break very much and I took a few photos. Here are a few of them………..

After waiting for SCT’s 3PM9 to clear the block, empty Aurizon Iron Ore service 6911S from Whyalla to Wirrida gains momentum through the popular photography spot of Yorkey’s Crossing with GWU012/GWA007 up front and GWA004/GWU014 at the rear on Thursday the 10th of November 2022.

These Iron Ore trains usually run 3 times a week to the Balloon loop at Wirrida before returning to Whyalla to export the loading overseas. The length and weight of the train as well as the network infrastructure arrangements require it to run with Distributed Power Units (DPU) to assist the train up gradients and to prevent running the locomotives around at Spencer Jct after each trip both ways. DPU running in South Australia isn’t very common and remains exclusive to this train, however it can be seen daily on the Coal networks in the Eastern states.

Saint Augustine is the historic headquarters city of the Florida East Coast Railway dating from 1885 when Henry Flagler established his offices in the city, some 10 years before the FEC name came into existence. The road built three office towers in the 1920s that served as the railroad's headquarters until 2006 when they were donated to Flagler College and the railroad relocated its leadership and administration to Jacksonville. Two cast relief concrete logos still proudly adorn the two covered corridors that connect the three buildings fronting on lovely outdoor courtyards. They feature the 'overseas' logo that shows a train steaming out over Long Key Viaduct on the line's remarkable Key West Extension which was only in service from 1912 to 1935. To learn more about this truly remarkable feat of railroad engineering check out this link:

www.kwahs.org/overseas-railway-timeline/

The historical maker in front of the buildings on Malaga Street reads:

Florida East Coast Railway - General Office Buildings. Henry M. Flagler built the Florida East Coast Railway (FEC) to link his resort empire and establish the east coast of Florida as 'The American Riviera.' Flagler, partner with John D. Rockefeller in Standard Oil, developed the Atlantic shoreline with a chain of luxury hotels from Jacksonville to Key West. Perhaps Flagler's greatest achievement was the construction of the Key West Extension finished shortly before his death in 1913. By 1916, the FEC Railway included 23 railroads, terminals, and bridge companies along 739 miles of track. Steamships linked the railroad at Miami to Nassau, Bahamas, and at Key West to Havana, Cuba. The Florida East Coast Hotel Company owned 14 resorts joined by the rail lines. In St. Augustine, Flagler's 1888 railway station west of downtown was replaced by three office towers built starting from south to north in 1922, 1923 and 1926. They served as the Railway's headquarters until 2006, when the FEC provided a $7.2 million gift-in-equity, making possible the transfer of the property to Flagler College. The College is committed to preservation of the buildings and adapting them for College uses.

We came upon a sheep farm in our travels last Sunday. It just so happened that the owners came up the road and there we were trying to get some nice shots of their sheep. Instead of chasing us off they invited us in and gave us a very informative "tour" of their sheep! They are sheep breeders and their sheep get shipped all over the US continent and some overseas also. The sheep used in the sheep shearing photo that I shared some time ago were from this farm. What a small world we live in to be sure. On a back, gravel road in Virginia to the world! :)

Magical Palm Trees in Paradise - Coastal State Road A1A - 11/25/22

My favorite "sunrise in paradise" location on Key West. These palms are featured on Jimmy Buffett's A1A album, and the back cover is about 50 yards north of here. While he lived here this was a favorite spot of his and he wrote a few songs here. Have been attempting to get the best shot of these palms for many years. I'M STILL TRYING!

Myōshin-ji (妙心寺 Myōshin-ji) is a temple complex in Kyoto, Japan, and head temple of the associated branch of Rinzai Zen Buddhism. The Myōshin-ji school is by far the largest school in Rinzai Zen, approximately as big as the other thirteen branches combined: it contains within it about 3,500 temples throughout Japan, together with a handful overseas, of the approximately six thousand total Rinzai temples, and also has nineteen associated monasteries, of the total of forty monasteries and one nunnery.
