Museum at Prairiefire colorful glass exterior as the dawning day bends the light. A museum a natural history melded with art and augmented reality that opened in Overland Park Kansas in 2014 boasts an unique stained glass exterior that is equally a visual fest for those of the photographic persuasion. I was glad my friend and co-worker from Long Island scouted this location that was worth the bitter cold we both endured on that morning. #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #omsystem @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot #tamractales @visitthemap @mpbcom @kehcamera @visitoverlandpark @visitkansas #omd #microfourthirds @siruiimaging #micro43 #micro43photography

One very frigid mid-west morning last month in Overland Park Kansas a co-worker who hails from Long Island ventured to the Prairiefire section of Overland Park to see and get some images of the Museum at Prairiefire, a beautiful museum with unique architecture that opened in 2014. It was cold but was glad we braved the elements as the Museum at Prairiefire did not disappoint. The stained glass gives the outside of the Museum a unique look and did not disappoint. The museum was closed obviously because my co-worker and I arrived just as the sun was rising as we needed to get to work on that same day. - [x] #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #omsystem @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot #tamractales @kehcamera @mpbcom #omd #microfourthirds #micro43photography @visitthemap @visitoverlandpark @visitkansas

Taken along I-40 in New Mexico

NR66 pulling The GSR Overland service after COVID.

The start of the Overland Track near Cradle Mountain, Tasmania. We walked along this section of the track to get to other (shorter) walks. The Overland Track takes 6 days - one day ...

Still in Kamloops, I decided to work on the Overlander Bridge, and try to make something of it. As it turned out, the shapes rather than the bridge itself, made the most interesting of the images taken. Creating a kind of window and framing the landscape beyond, resulted in the most compelling of the work that day.

It is also satisfying that the water is back in the Thompson River. For some time now, one could walk quite far out onto sand bars, leaving us wondering about water levels. But, plenty of rain and cooler temperatures seemed to have helped current conditions.

and the front... sun was setting fast, not sure I got exactly the photo which captures my joy at glancing over as I'm driving and taking in the scene, just magic!

Still need to finish it. Inspired by Missing Brick's tractor, I wanted to do something else that might feel at home in the Hadley's Hope settlement. Going to swap the cockpit for a really boxy one instead.

EDIT: Not sure why the pic is so dark, will fix it when I get home.

Once called the “The Wickedest City in the West”, Julesburg is the only town in Colorado where the original Union Pacific Overland Route from Council Bluffs passes through. Before settlers arrived, the area around Julesburg was home to the Arapaho, Cheyenne, and other Plains tribes. In 1856, Francis Bryan, a U.S. Army Lieutenant founded a Native American trail along the southern edge of the South Platte River near present-day Julesburg. It later became the Overland Trail after the aftermath of the Colorado Gold Rush of 1859.

In 1858, a half-French Canadian, half-Indian trapper by the name of Jules Beni established a trading post and saloon along the south side of the South Platte River between present day Ovid and Julesburg. As time went on, more people settled within the vicinity of the trading post and saloon where several buildings were built. It became one of the best known establishments between Fort Kearny, Nebraska, and what was then, the new mining town of Denver. As the area continued to grow, the new settlement became know as Julesburg, named after its proprietor Jules Beni. However, the town was burned to the ground by Cheyenne, Arapaho, and Lakota warriors during the Battle of Julesburg of 1865, which was retaliation for the Sand Creek Massacre. The second Julesburg was rebuilt four miles away from the original site and served military troops from nearby Fort Sedgwick.

The Union Pacific from Council Bluffs arrived in 1867 and boasted a telegraph office and freight house owned by Wells Fargo. The UP however continued building west towards Cheyenne and the second Julesburg quickly faded. The third Julesburg was relocated once again, and settled across the South Platte River adjacent to the UP tracks. During its short existence from 1867 to 1881, Julesburg garnered a reputation as a violent, vice-ridden "hell on wheels" place. The fourth and final Julesburg was incorporated in 1886 when the branch line from Denver joined with the Overland Route. The town earned the nickname, "The Town That Moved Four Times".

Today, the UP still provides the daily ritual of running trains through Julesburg with its busy Sidney Subdivision. The Julesburg Subdivision, that once went all the way to La Salle, is still used a couple days per week with a local based out of Sterling.

It's 112F here today and humid (that's around 40C). Standing here waiting for a the right car to pass made my camera almost too hot to hold and it malfunctioned soon after and shut itself down without warning.
