Because of global warming bogs in the Midwest are all but gone. This one in NE Indiana is probably one of the most southern ones left. they are amazing things, I almost died in one in Michigan.

Like all hummingbirds, the Anna’s spends much of its life in overdrive. When flying, their hearts, no bigger than an infant’s fingernail, beat 1,200 times a minute. Every 60 seconds they breathe 250 times. In a typical day they will visit hundreds of flowers, dining every 15 minutes. It’s not an idle pursuit — they must consume twice their body weight in insects and nectar on a daily basis just to survive. They drink the nectar with tubular tongues that work like pumps and are so long that, when retracted, coil up inside the birds’ heads, around their skulls and eyes. The nectar, which is 26 per cent sugar, acts like rocket fuel, powering their high-octane lifestyle.
Hummingbirds burn energy faster than any creature except flying insects. An average-sized male human burns between 2,500 and 3,000 calories a day. If a similar-sized hummingbird existed, it would burn more than 150,000 calories a day. American ornithologist Crawford Greene Walt once calculated that if we used energy at that rate that hummingbirds do, our skin would heat up to 400 C. Hummingbirds don’t overheat largely because they have so much exterior and so little interior; no part of them is far enough from the surface to trap much heat. These flying furnaces do cool down at night, however, when they enter torpor and slow their heart rate from a fluttery resting pulse of 21 beats per second to little more than one beat every two seconds.
The ability to slip into a type of hibernation on chilly nights helps the Anna’s survive our cold and rainy winters. The other factor is the abundance of backyard feeders and ornamental flowers found throughout the city, which provide them with a year-round food supply, in addition to the insects, spiders and tree sap they also feed upon.

Even after a relative success at Omoide, I still wanted a large scale dystopian shot, industrial sure, but with a hint of a futuristic look which is something the izakayas didn't really offer. I had no idea my ultimate opportunity would arrive in the form of a Yodobashi store.
Researching once I got back from Japan, apparently a lot of Yodobashis have large neon signs out front. The only one I was familiar with beforehand in Akihabara just didn't have that, so I had no reason to suspect THIS was waiting for me at the plaza in Shinjuku. Come to think of it, I actually didn't expect to come back with a lot of shots from Shinjuku, yet it's very clear now that this eclipses all the other Tokyo districts on my camera roll, maybe even combined. There's just something about it's dirtier nature that seemed so photogenic.
So in my previous Yodobashi Plaza post I foreshadowed this as my "much better shot". I browsed for a while waiting for the sky to get darker and it started raining. Finding a spot to put my tripod was a bit challenging and I constantly had to wipe my lens off (I had to move my umbrella everytime it was actually time to shoot so it took a couple drops). The sky wasn't dark enough it was still a deep purple, so in editing I went all in. Tried to give this photo powerful shadows, a black sky, and a dominating red/yellow color scheme.
When I say "cyberpunk" I don't think I got closer to that then this. A large sign from above and the branching out signs to either side on the bottom, along with the contrast of the white sign (the only part of this image I couldn't read, I know what the rest say). What would've been even more awesome is if I managed to get a rain streak in my shot considering I was shooting on a slow shutter, but it wasn't that profuse, so it didn't end up in my frame. I have several slightly different and/or vertical frames as well so there is a chance I'll revisit this shot in the future (that is, if we're not already in said future).
