DR 229 173 and IC 534 "Elbflorenz" from Dresden are close to their destination at Mittlerer Landweg in the outskirts of Hamburg. In 1993, the two state railways Bundesbahn and Reichsbahn still existed and on the line from Hamburg to Berlin intercity und suburban third rail still had to share tracks. An outwardbound class 472 EMU is visible in the background.

The North Head Trail around Signal Hill in St.John's takes hikers very close to the hustle of marine traffic. St.John's, NL.
Perhaps I should design album covers.
For those who are interested (and may have commented below!) - this is a picture of a real, live butterfly. However, for the sake of art (you may call it something else) I have made a montage and substituted the background. Believe me, the original background was really, really unappealing.
I created it for the Two Word Wednesday group.

Playing with high key to lose the horizon and suggest the great unknown of the outward bound. Doing a lot of playing just now to stretch my boundaries. I wanted the boat to fill the senses and express their vulnerability and fortitude. Another hand held opportune shot.

Last Monday morning photographers were invited for a fee to take photographs in the morning. The access though was limited to these three ships. From the left they are the Picton Castle, Alert, and Fritha. The fourth ship is Outward Bound, not part of the tall ships but my guess it is connected to the organization of the same name.
In 1992 Schooner ALERT was launched and christened TALL COTTON. She was designed and built by Paul Rollins in York, Maine. As a private yacht she was bought by a fisherman named Roger Woodman in 2006. Woodman changed her name to ALERT and fitted her out for commercial ground fishing and research. ALERT operated in the commercial fishing industry out of Portland, Maine until 2012.
In 2013 ALERT was sold to Captains Perry Davis and Bethany McNelly-Davis. They had been sailing out of Bailey Island, Maine hosting charters on their ketch TEVAKE since 2006. They converted ALERT from a commercial fishing schooner to a commercial passenger carrying vessel. In September 2013 ALERT was awarded a certificate of inspection by the United States Coast Guard to carry 28 passengers.
The S/V Fritha is a 74-foot tall ship used for training purposes at Northeast Maritime Institute (NMI) and is widely available for charters to the public. Students enrolled in Northeast Maritime Institute’s Associate Degree of Applied Nautical Science program have the exciting opportunity to train and experience life at sea aboard the Fritha.
Launched in 1986 in New Zealand and named for the heroine in Paul Gallico’s book The Snow Goose, the brigantine Fritha was built in New Zealand by traditional methods of craftsmanship that have resulted in a beautifully unique and rewarding sailing experience. [Website]
