An old Southern Television outside broadcast centre. A bus conversion, pretty much a TV centre on wheels. There's room inside for a few people to sit at the controls and keep tabs on what was being broadcast back in the day.
Wells Brimtoy tinplate and plastic Television Outside Broadcast Unit. Generic cab, no friction motor. This still has its roof mounted aerial, unlike my original one of these. I've seen one fitted (incorrectly I'm fairly sure) with the TV aerial from the TV repair van, but I'm pretty certain this has the correct one. What I'm now wondering is what, if anything, might have belonged in the hole on the front of the body. Anyone know?

A wet day in Edinburgh in the mid 1970's. BBC Scotland's Colour Mobile Control Room turns from Queensferry Street into Randolph Crescent. I know nothing about BBC vehicles, but to me this looks the same as this one. It has a lot of the look of a Bedford VAL about it, but the wheelbase seems a little short. An unidentified Lothian AN68 squeezes past.
Randolph Crescent is where the Institut Francais d'Ecosse is to be found. I recall going to a party there, quite possibly at about the time this photograph was taken, in my capacity as general dogsbody at the publicity department of the Edinburgh Festival. Of the party itself, I remember nothing. I think this tells us more about me than about the Institut Francais.
A gorgeous array of BBC vehicles at Royal Ascot, 1996. Petrol-engined LAND-ROVER (C867 BUW) was around from April 2nd, 1986 to January 2006. 2975cc petrol Citroen XM (K690 EUL) lasted from August 1992 to September, 2003. BEDFORD TL (C47 EHX) first registered July 7th, 1986 disappeared from our roads on March 12th, 2009. In the background is a Leyland DAF45 rigid and what looks like an ERF artic.

RXX 905 (nicknamed "Thumper"; not after the rabbit out of "Bambi", but because of the noise the generators made!) is pictured at the 2016 Essex Country Show. It was used to provide power to outside broadcast equipment, and dates back to 1955. It was also used for important national events, such as Sir Winston Churchill's State Funeral in 1965, and the England-hosted FIFA World Cup the following year. It was withdrawn by the BBC in 1968. This is the sole survivor of an original fleet of ten vehicles.

The plant in Tampere was founded in 1942 as a manufacturer of buses and special bodies. The Ajokki name is translated as "vehicle". The factory was established in wartime, with all its attendant problems - shortage of materials and labor. Initially, production was carried out in rented areas. But in March-April 1943, production began in its own building. That time the company produced and repair trucks, chassis, buses and taxis. In wartime, almost all production went to army. In the late '40s production has increased significantly. In 1951, the company included 128 workers. In 1952, a terrible fire destroyed almost all the production facilities of the company, but the plant quickly recovered and returned to its usual activities. In 1955, Ajokki introduced its first wooden body bus with steel reinforcement, and in 1957 the plant began producing all-steel bodies. In 1989, Ajokki Oy, together with the Delta Plan Oy and Wiima Oy, became the part of the Carrus Oy, which later, in 2004, joined to the group Volvo

The gas and electricity outage in Caddington continues. Some homes in the village have gas, some has electricity, some have both, some have neither. A real mixed bag. Our gas is still out but at least we have electricity. An eerie silence decended on the village last night with further power cuts. The emergency rest centres have been open 24 hours a day for the last few days and have done a great job.
Meanwhile, the snowy weather continues to hamper the army of men busy working away down numerous holes scattered around the village

Peugeot 806 GLX HDI (manual). DVLA have the colour as white.
One of a fleet of identical 806s to be fitted out as mobile, roving studios for the BBC's local radio stations. This one belonged to BBC Radio Norfolk, and was supplied by 'Oxford Motors', seemingly now 'Bristol Street Motors' (Peugeot dealer).
Registered by late 2001, presumably entering service reasonably soon after, it's seen in late 2006 conducting interviews in King's Lynn about allotmenting. This example was probably scrapped during 2015 after covering 130,000+ miles. It failed an MOT in 2014 due to excessive corrosion. Last taxed in 2018.
From other Flickr uploads, OY51HBE must've served alongside X629POG - an identical (but actually white) 806 registered in late 2000. POG outlived this car by 2 years - last MOT expired in 2017 - although it's currently SORN.
Though I have no idea what the white pole's for?!!?
