Alexandra Bridge, between Ottawa and Gatineau Quebec. The bridge was constructed between 1898 and 1900.

Today was a beautiful, crisp winter morning, with actual snow and little wind. We took advantage of the weather to look for the Hawk Owl and other birds, and to enjoy some fresh air. Tonight we are getting freezing rain into tomorrow, so no fun to be had outside for the next few days.

This weed was covered in hoar frost and caught the sun nicely. It may be Queen Anne's Lace or something similar.

7767 chugs its way south past the Ottawa siding headed for Lima. First ever Toledo Sub chase, went pretty good. Don’t expect many more pics though.

Sometimes I forget how mind-bendingly lucky I am to live where I do.

This will most probably be the last of my trip postings.....so I though I'd go out with a dramatic type shot ....I had made a few b/w with the purple and orange filters on.....I love the detail of this magnificent old hotel against the big and puffy clouds....

Thank you for all of the great comments you have left me regarding my trip to Ottawa and Montreal.... you are the best.

the Ottawa River is still frozen.

The river is usually completely frozen at this time of year. It's been relatively mild this year.

A southbound rack train makes its way down the CSX Toledo Subdivision on a sunny Winter afternoon, passing the Baltimore & Ohio CPL's south of Ottawa, Ohio.

Parliament Hill colloquially known as The Hill, is an area of Crown land on the southern banks of the Ottawa River in downtown Ottawa, Ontario. Its Gothic revival suite of buildings serves as the home of the Parliament of Canada and contains a number of architectural elements of national symbolic importance. Parliament Hill attracts approximately 3 million visitors each year. Originally the site of a military base in the 18th and early 19th centuries, development of the area into a governmental precinct began in 1859, after Queen Victoria chose Bytown as the capital of the Province of Canada. Following a number of extensions to the parliament and departmental buildings and a fire in 1916 that destroyed the Centre Block, Parliament Hill took on its present form with the completion of the Peace Tower in 1927.

Peter and I woke up early this morning and cycled downtown. The light was beautiful as we cycled along the Ottawa River, crossing into Gatineau, Quebec and observing the light changing over Parliament Hill. Sadly, we couldn't stay long as we had to get back home and start the work day. It was, however, beautiful while it lasted :)

Wow....I never knew that streetlamps and people could make a great bokeh....hummm go figure....

An artful, fun find in downtown Ottawa. Happy Sunday my friends, enjoy =)
