The gable stone of the original entrace to the Begijnhof in Amsterdam. It shows St. Ursula, the patron saint of beguines, who is shielding the women from the troubles of the world.
Beguines were women living in small closed communities (beguinages) under self-imposed strict rules, in particular chastity, but without taking monastic vows. Popular in the middle ages, the beguine movement has generally declined a long time ago, but some communities persisted well into the XXth century. In Amsterdam, the last beguine died in early 1970ies. Today, houses in the Begijnhof are private dwellings, but still restricted to single women.

What a treat it was to be able to take a ride on the recent tourist ship into space and being able to take along the Sigma lens as well for some space landscapes :)
BTW ... no Photoshop was done here, a single exposure. More to follow on how this was captured for real ... I have others to take.

A La Tène ornament, found in one of the six graves at Orainville, 60 km from Soissons. The graves, dated to 300-250 B.C. were found at a rescue excavation in 1999.

When Christmas Day will come to Melbourne, its summer colours seemed all wrong to me.
The only illusion of snow outdoor is in the pure white of a few streaks of cloud. So, we appreciate this ornament winter scene…
Yellow Robin - alert but not alarmed was posing for a while before spotting that tasty bug on the ground.

Hood ornament detail of the "Satis" Rolls-Royce Phantom II. This is not the typical Rolls-Royce "Emily" figure, but some winged runner, what I believe to be the Greek God Hermes, protector of traffic, travelers and magic.

“True ornament is not a matter of prettifying externals. It is organic with the structure it adorns, whether a person, a building, or a park.”

for context.....this ornament is about 3 inches in diameter so the small portion that is the MM posting falls well within the 3” parameters.

I was wandering the back roads of the Fraser Valley when I came upon some old cars. They sat by the roadside, rusting away a little more each day. I’m definitely not a “car guy” but regardless I decided to stop and see if there was a photograph here. My initial reaction was that they were just some old junkers. The name plate was long gone so I’m not sure make of car used this hood ornament. Regardless I like the futuristic look.
