SLUGGETT / Brentwood Bay - A rapidly developing village on Saanich Inlet north of Victoria, Brentwood Bay is home to the world-famous Butchart Gardens. Brentwood Village offers excellent accommodation, waterfront restaurants, and all amenities, and is also a jumping-off point for kayakers, canoeists and mountain hikers. Previously named SLUGGETT after pioneer John Sluggett who settled in the area in 1876, the village of Brentwood Bay was given the rather more appealing name in 1925. Brentwood Village takes its name from the English town of Brentwood in Essex, home town of R.M. Horne-Payne, president of the British Columbia Electric Company in the 1920s. The Brentwood Bay-Mill Bay ferry is a convenient 25-minute route across the Saanich Inlet for those travelling to or from the Swartz Bay terminal and destinations north of Victoria. This scenic route bypasses Victoria and the Malahat.

The SLUGGETT Post Office opened (first opening) - 1 August 1892, named after first postmaster J. Sluggett; the district around here was called SLUGGETTS. When the railway was complete the station was named Brentwood, after the English estate, and home of Mr. Horne-Payne, chairman of the board of directors, BC Electric Railway. The district became more frequently called Brentwood. The SLUGGETT Post Office closed - 14 September 1912 and re-opened (second opening) - 1 March 1920. The SLUGGETT Post Office was renamed Brentwood Bay Post Office - 16 March 1925. Department of Highways ferry landing, Brentwood, was subsequently located there.

This article was written by Greg Nesteroff on Oct. 5, 2014 for the Nelson Star newspaper - GRAHAM LANDING - This settlement in the Columbia River Narrows opposite and a little north of Burton was named for Alexander James Graham (1867-1943), who had a farm and small sawmill there. According to Milton Parent in Port of Nakusp, Graham moved there with his wife Margaret and daughter Lillian late in 1903. Graham Creek was also named after them. Lillian is absent from the 1911 census, but by that time another daughter, Beatrice, had been born. Graham Landing then boasted a population of 42. The post office opened on June 1 that year with Graham as postmaster. He held the job until 1943, when Beatrice took over. The office closed in 1949. GRAHAM LANDING was an AGRICULTURAL community and former port of call for PADDLEWHEEL STEAMBOATS 80 km north of CASTLEGAR, on the west side of the COLUMBIA RIVER between Upper and Lower ARROW LAKES. It disappeared after the KEENLEYSIDE DAM raised water levels in 1968. Settled in the 1890s, it was named after A.J. Graham, who ran a small SAWMILL here and became the first postmaster. Welsford Redverse Hiltz, Mahone Bay, passed away at the Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, September 29, 1985. Born at Martin's Point, April 13, 1906, he was the son of the late Captain Arthur and Amelia (Hughes) Hiltz. He served some years in the Royal Canadian Navy and HMCS Dockyard, Halifax. He is survived by his wife, the former Eva Aulenbach of Farmville; two daughters, Ernestine (Mrs. Ralston Swinimer), Blockhouse; Laverne (Mrs. Christopher Andrew), Prospect; a son, Reid, Maitland; and a sister, Vera Bustin, Mahone Bay. He was predeceased by five sisters, Grace, Lillie, Eloise, Orabelle, and Iva; three brothers, Clarence, Harry, and Arthur.

Eva Martha Hiltz, 88, Mahone Bay, died March 21, 1994, in Mahone Nursing Home, Mahone Bay. Born in Farmville, she was a daughter of the late Josiah and Martha (Beck) Aulenback. She was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Farmville. In her early years she had been employed in a hat factory in the United States. She is survived by two daughters, Ernestine (Tina) (Mrs. Ralson Swinimer), Blockhouse; Laverne (Mrs. Christopher Andrew), Prospect; son, Reid, Maitland, Lunenburg County; two sisters, Albertha Whynacht, Lunenburg; Jennie Schnare, New Minas; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Welsford; brother, Dennis.

Winter has arrived in full glory, even in pixel world. It is the time of the most beautiful seasonal scenery; but as I dug out my furs, shook them a little, and found them quite outdated, I had to make new ones.
'La Pelliccia' is released in 6 versions, ranging from white to dark grey, and it contains this hat, muff, and stole - and an additional shoulder mantel (not shown in picture).
The one set I am wearing is named 'Livia', an exclusive or 'rare' set. Non-Gacha (although I will consider) - this set will only be sold 5 times. 4 are divided over my stores in Bay of Naples and Versailles. The last one is on auction at Magritte's Christmas Market (closing December 23rd) for the sake of charity: Survivors of Suicide.

I have done all sorts of things to her: Carved mouth and bits of her face, nostrils, changed her eyelashes to long beautiful navy blue ones, given her a full pastel faceup and painted the sea tendrils on her eyes, she has painted eyelids in metallic paint to match her main set of hand painted eye chips by me. At the moment she only has 2 sets of handpainted chips and 2 empty sockets! I am adding to them as I make eyechips for my Etsy shop by creating simultaneous versions for her! She has sllepy eyes and gaze correction and beautiful heavy glass and swarovski beads on her pulls. She is finished off with a green freshwater pearl headband that I made (made more for the Etsy store at the same time) and a lovely Leshan dress in teal. I love her lots!

She has sllepy eyes and gaze correction and beautiful heavy glass and swarovski beads on her pulls. She is finished off with a green freshwater pearl headband that I made (made more for the Etsy store at the same time) and a lovely Leshan dress in teal. I love her lots!

These amazing lampwork beads (by Kate Sullivan) just had to be teamed with lots of seashore style Bali silver and aquamarine beads. I'm so pleased iwht the end result of this asymetrical bracelet.

Esther Orabelle Loomis - This is kategardenphotos mother. I told kate that I thought the original photo was a stunning composition and she said I could give colorizing it a shot, and here it is. I cropped out a lot of the extra background, rotated the photo a couple of notches counter clockwise, and cleaned up a bunch of spots and scratches, etc. I also dodged and burned several areas around the face and adjusted levels over all. Then I colored it based on the clues kate gave me. After it was colored, I then adjusted hue and saturation a tad and smoothed it by a factor 4. This is what I came up with. I hope it looks like her Mom. The original can be seen here:

Orabelle models for me. She has a broken foot! I was trying to stuff her big feet in some sandals and her foot broke off. I have tried everything I can think of to fix it but no luck. I have now had to order her a new Neemo body, although I did have second thoughts as it didn't seem to take much force to break her irreperably.
