iI´ve done this to a zeiss optimized f1.5 lens and took one shim out, thus making it f2.8 opt.

 

All the trick is about shims, they work making the rear element getting closer or farther from the front one.

The focal distance never changes.

But the distance from the rear element to the focal plane does.

Well i´ve made painted notches to indicate myself what optimization i´m in.

Right nothces (2) rear element totally screwed in (floppy), means opt at f2.8

To left notch means optimization at f1.5.

On the rear element there´s another white painted notch, indicates where the rear element is in relation to the other notches.
