Café De Omval must close due to new construction. The pub, which opened its doors in 1938, must make way for new construction.
Neighbours objected to the pub's departure and started a petition, but to no avail. The property is owned by the municipality, which previously announced the forced departure. The neighbourhood is developing and in recent years many office and residential buildings have sprung up around the area next to the Amstel River.

The Northern hawk-owl (Surnia ulula) is a medium sized true owl of the northern latitudes. It is non-migratory and usually stays within its breeding range, though it sometimes irrupts southward. It is one of the few owls that is neither nocturnal nor crepuscular, being active only during the day.
The Northern hawk-owl has been said to resemble a hawk in appearance and in behavior. In North America, its appearance in flight is often considered similar to a Cooper's hawk (Accipiter cooperii). It has been suggested that this may be because the hawk- owl may partially fill an important diurnal niche similar to that of day hunters such as hawks.

Sorry to bother you once again with this most-photographed scene on my stream. But once in a while I need to go to this beautiful place to shoot. This time it was really challenging because of many many mosquitos around. So probably this will be the one and only image of that pond this year :-)

What a great opportunity to see this well known couple first thing on our visit to Seney Wildlife Refuge. They've apparently been together since 1997, making the annual 3,000 mile migratory trip returning to Seney each year. Here's a great article on the couple:

I thought and thought about images I have in the Holiday colors and subjects. No Cedar Waxwings with berries - shucks, I haven't even SEEN a Cedar Waxwing this winter. No holly and ivy, all I could think of is my bright Vermilions, just had to find one with a reasonably green background or embellishment. So here he is, wishing everyone a joyous holiday season, and good weather, light and opportunities for the New Year.

I had the opportunity to photograph this very cooperative Least Tern that was incubating it’s eggs. Knowing that the Sun will go down behind the bird, I decided to spend the rest of the evening photographing the bird. Strangely, she/ he had no help from the partner, every hour or so the bird took a break to feed itself

Unfortunately this male's own strike was far from successful and his chosen prey had long since fled when I took this shot.

This Barn Owl was perched on the post behind the tree making it difficult to get a good angle for a shot, when a brief gust of wind moved the branches allowing me to capture this photo, hence the title.

I love this angle looking northeast toward downtown St. Paul. This photo took a long wait, as the glaciers probably moved faster than did this manifest trying to make a start down the Mankato Subdivision. This train left Hoffman Yard and slowly worked its way to under the Wabasha Street Bridge then stopped for 10 minutes. The train then moved the distance of two city blocks near Ontario Street then stopped. I figured there had to be opposing traffic or something causing them to be so hesitant. Sure enough, a long manifest was ending its journey on the Mankato Subdivision and coming into St. Paul. Another 30 minutes went by, perhaps to give traffic downtown a break - the first manifest occupied Chestnut Street for 15 minutes. Finally, this westbound finally moved onto the Mankato Subdivision and completed a glorious scene here viewed from the High Bridge. I estimate it took 1 hour and 30 minutes for this to get here from Hoffman Yard - a distance of only three miles away.
A rain wet Going to the Sun Highway in Glacier National Park runs through the forest along McDonald Creek. Completed in 1932, the spectacular, 50 mile long Going-to-the-Sun Road bisects the park east to west. The paved two-lane highway spans the width of Glacier National Park and crosses the Continental Divide at 6,646-foot-high Logan Pass. It passes large glacial lakes and cedar forests in the lower valleys; canyons and cliffs; culminating at the windswept alpine tundra atop the pass. Scenic viewpoints and pullouts line the road offering dramatic views and photo opportunities.
The road is nationally significant for its design and monumental engineering accomplishments. The original roadbed, bridges, tunnels, culverts, retaining walls, and guard walls were built in the “NPS Rustic” style. Individually, these structures are often significant examples of period engineering and design philosophy; collectively, they comprise a vital, integral component of the road’s unique character. Most of these structures were designed to harmonize with the roadway setting by using native materials and by blending with landforms as much as possible.The Going-To-The-Sun Road is a National Historic Landmark, is included in the National Register of Historic Places and is a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.
One of the waterfalls in the Healey Dell valley. This is another throwback to our Industrial Heritage when the River Spodden powered the Corn, Cotton and Woollen Mills in this area of Lancashire.
The valley is littered with relics from this bygone era and provides lots of good photo opportunities such as this.

An opportunity to see some Gray-crowned Babblers while I was walking around Lake Fyans in the Halls Gap area.
There were several of them chasing each other from perch to perch - usually in many branches - - so as much fun as they were to watch they never were a great photo op as a grouping.

A great opportunity to shoot moon when its full and traveling between the overcast. A bit difficult to set the exposure as the light changes every other second. Too much and you will loose details and too little then you won't get the clouds. Also since the moon is constantly on the move, you cannot do bracketing and later merge as you will get a slight motion and won't get a perfect merge. And I hate photoshopping anything that ain't there on the photograph. So the best option is to take multiple shots and hope one does come out with all details you would want in the shot!

We've had the opportunity to visit a deserted area near the Hollywood sign. Near it was Bronson Caves, which was unfortunately closed off. There was this unique pattern of rocks that someone left behind, and it fit the atmosphere fairly well!
On my way to the city centre I noticed that the gate to the back yard of a shop was open with fairy lights sparkling, so I took the opportunity to quickly take a photo of the scene.
I can't resist fairy lights when I have mounted a vintage (or fast) lens onto one of my cameras ; ))

The barns in the consist were shut down for fuel conservation and will be set out at Fredonia for a grain drag that will originate there. Running at 10 mph the train is just West of Fredonia and will spend the best part of an hour here giving us several different opportunities.

While trying to get some shots of the European Kestrel I came across this interesting situation. Obviously the Common Buzzard just killed -and was feasting on- a bird while this crow (?) was nearby waiting for the left overs. You can almost read the common buzzards thoughts......

In March I had an opportunity to visit my sister in Victoria, Texas. While visiting we toured many areas where I was able to get a photo shoot in. On this day we stayed in Victoria and traveled to the outskirts where this lazy river was flowing. Right on that river bank was a bar and grill where we relaxed with a Martini and shrimp. Such a nice view from their outdoor deck! Some of the views are abstract with many reflections. I will be uploading each place separately as I get them ready to view. An opportunity that was on for some time but 43043 and 43081 were held on the approach to Water Orton and 37059 and 37069 ran a little early so in the end, in reality, it didn't although this is what it could have looked like. The HST's were making that ominous journey to Long Marston from Neville Hill running as 5Z62 while the EE's were on a Derby R.T.C. circular running as 5Z17.
Given the opportunity to consider this shot, gave rise to thoughts of time. Have you ever pondered it and tried to explain time? Or listened to those who attempt to do so? Typically. the defining term becomes one of direction. Time appears to move only forward, unlike the other elements that constitute our universe.
As a companion, its meaning lead me to compose this image. Headstones for leading lines, and a tree branch to frame them. This photos purpose is related to the mysteries of time, its "direction", and the enigma that lay ahead.
