here is another one from the archives , as Fall fast approaches .
As a long haul trucker, I personally love these parts of the Country where you can drive without seeing another vehicle for 5 or 10 minutes at a time. It's very calming, a sense of peace and freedom, all stress is sucked away in the vacuum of open space. I took this shot off US-95 heading South, but a little North of Schurz Nevada. I cropped a little of the blue sky off and kinda wished I'd waited another second before taking the picture, rule of thirds stuff. Though of cropping the right side to comply with the rule but didn't want to give up the mountain on that side in the background. So, screw the rules.
Just South of Mexican Hat Utah. I took this one in April of 2014 and then the same shot, but in July of the same year. I posted the July shot back when I first got on Flickr. (flic.kr/p/p219RV) I like this earlier shot better.
This is in Oregon (Blue Mountain Pass, about the same elevation as Denver), on a day that had me stopping frequently because of the great clouds I chased from morning to dusk. Over the years I've stopped at this exact spot and taken pictures. It's off US-95 and about 60 miles north of Winnemucca Nevada.
A second version of an older post. Sometimes I like to try different things on the same photo.
Happy Slider Sunday
A typical March or April day ... this Spring has been an extension of winter! Probably looking its best in mono, and with the Beatles too 😊

That leads to your door
Will never disappear
I've seen that road before
It always leads me here
Lead me to you door"

I always liked this style of Gran Prix,so when I noticed this sitting in a drive of an old, forgotten farm,I decided to check it out.It is way beyond my restoration abilities on the exterior, and lifting the hood was not very encouraging either.I thought the location was pretty appropriate-this was a pretty significant farm in its day,but that day,and the hope of its restoration are a pretty open, dark, and bumpy road....
No, not the same location as the previous post, but another hill section in the Lake District, this time the road leading down from Birker Fell into Eskdale. A motorcyclist kindly passed to provide some added interest.
Breaking Through....
We took a brisk walk through the park, apparently we weren't the only ones with that idea; the park was actually full of outdoor enthusiasts, who after a long cold spell took the first sign of nice weather to venture outside as well. us Canadians are a funny bunch indeed.
The sun found an opening ion the thick cloud cover and spread its golden glow all over the park.

If you’re dreaming of a road trip that blends dramatic coastal cliffs, charming fishing villages, and a touch of wild remoteness, the Gaspé Peninsula in Québec is pure magic. Driving the full loop along Route 132 is about 885 km (550 miles) and can be done in 5 to 12 days depending on your pace and curiosity.
Which Direction to Drive?
Most seasoned travellers recommend going counterclockwise. Why? You’ll hug the coast on the right-hand side, giving you uninterrupted views of the sea and easier access to scenic pull-offs. That said, clockwise offers a more dramatic entrance into the mountainous northern coast—so it depends on your vibe.
🌊 Highlights Along the Way
- Percé Rock & Bonaventure Island: One of Canada’s most iconic coastal sights. You can take a boat tour to see the gannet colony up close.
- Forillon National Park: Rugged cliffs, whale-watching, and hiking trails that feel like the edge of the world.

- Forillon National Park: Rugged cliffs, whale-watching, and hiking trails that feel like the edge of the world.
- Gaspé Town: A great base for exploring Forillon, with a mix of history and local culture.
- Matapédia Valley: Inland charm with covered bridges and salmon rivers.
- Lighthouses Galore: Including Canada’s second tallest at Pointe-au-Père.
️ Where to Stay
From rustic cabins to boutique inns, there’s a wide range. In Rimouski, for example, Motel Bienvenue offers cozy lofts with firepits and sunset views over the St. Lawrence.
️ What to Eat
Expect fresh seafood—lobster rolls, smoked salmon, and scallops—as well as hearty Québécois fare like tourtière and poutine. Local microbreweries and cheese shops are worth a detour too.
🚗 Driving Tips
- Fuel up often: Some stretches are remote.
- Watch for wildlife: Moose and deer are common, especially at dawn and dusk.
- French helps: While many people speak English, a few French phrases go a long way.
If you’re thinking of weaving this into a broader Canadian adventure or want help plotting a route with photo stops, I’d love to help you map it out.
Maybe, just maybe, use my canada travel blog?

A Maze Of Fences...
While on a trip through the Caledon Area, we drove past this paddock; which had this awesome random maze of fence lines that crisscrossed the field in an off hand way, that seemed too arbitrary to be an accident... maybe there is method to the madness. I cannot tell! but i certainly enjoyed taking this photo. HFF

Winter Lake...
In the bitter cold of mid-January we ventured out to the Lake to get a few shots;. braving the cold and biting winter wind. shooting between the dim daylight between the thick billowing storm clouds overhead.
we stopped at the frozen lake and took a shot of the frozen thick ice. which made strange popping and humming sounds as it expanded and pushed against the shore.

A lone tree stands along a Texas highway, shaped by time and wind.
The simplicity of the scene drew me in. The road creates a strong leading line, balanced by the tree, while the black and white emphasizes contrast, texture, and mood over color.
shot by KHWD , i think it was a small road in the Cairngorms, certainly treacherous in a motorhome
Cairngorms National Park (Scottish Gaelic: Pàirc Nàiseanta a' Mhonaidh Ruaidh) is a national park in northeast Scotland, established in 2003. It was the second of two national parks established by the Scottish Parliament, after Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, which was set up in 2002. The park covers the Cairngorms range of mountains, and surrounding hills. Already the largest national park in the United Kingdom, in 2010 it was expanded into Perth and Kinross.
Roughly 18,000 people reside within the 4,528 square kilometre national park. The largest communities are Aviemore, Ballater, Braemar, Grantown-on-Spey, Kingussie, Newtonmore, and Tomintoul. Like all other national parks in the UK, the park is IUCN designated Category V however it contains within its boundaries several national nature reserves that have IUCN Category II (national park) statuses, such as Abernethy Forest and Mar Lodge Estate.
In 2018, 1.9 million tourism visits were recorded. The majority of visitors are domestic, with 25 per cent coming from elsewhere in the UK, and 21 per cent being from other countries. Tourism makes up about 80% of the economy of the national park.
PS Love the Cairngorms
Taken from the shoulder of US-95 South of Marsing but before Rockville. Just climbed up and over the Owyhee Mountains, descending down on the South side as the sun was also making its daily descent. The somewhat thin clouds filtered out enough of the direct suns light that shooting directly into it wasn't a problem. In fact really liked the effect, enough to squeeze off onto the narrow should and get out to take a few pictures of the vast openness lying before me.
In Southern California tonight, delivering tomorrow morning in Long Beach. Only have about an hour before I have to hit the rack. Gonna visit as many of you as I can, keeping my comments short... humm, maybe a blessing for you, lol.

we wanted to go across to sandur but as it was a weekend and lots of Faroese and no guarantee of a place back on the ferry too risky as we were leaving for iceland tomorrow, so sadly had to pass. Boo!
To get from Kirkjubøur to Sandoy, you’ll need to make a short hop to the Gamlarætt ferry terminal, which is the actual departure point for ferries to Sandoy. Here’s how the journey unfolds:
🚗 Step 1: From Kirkjubøur to Gamlarætt
Kirkjubøur doesn’t have its own ferry terminal, but Gamlarætt is just a 10–15 minute drive north along the coast. It’s nestled between Kirkjubøur and Velbastaður on Streymoy and serves as the main ferry port for Sandoy and Hestur.
️ Step 2: Ferry from Gamlarætt to Skopun (Sandoy)
- The ferry is operated by Strandfaraskip Landsins (SSL), the national transport company.
- The crossing to Skopun on Sandoy takes about 30 minutes.
- You can bring a car or travel as a foot passenger.
- Tickets and schedules are available on SSL’s official website.
🚌 Step 3: From Skopun to Sandur
Once you arrive in Skopun, it’s a short drive or bus ride to Sandur, the island’s main village. Sandur is known for its sandy beach, historic church, and local art museum—a rare blend of natural beauty and cultural depth in the Faroes.
🌿 Optional: Full-Day Tours
If you’re keen on a guided experience, there are full-day tours that combine Kirkjubøur and Sandoy, including stops in villages like Dalur, Húsavík, and Skálavík, plus stories of Viking legends and WWII relics.
Would you like help planning a route that includes photo stops or a bit of folklore along the way? I’ve got a few gems up my sleeve. We did them all, maybe read our blog?

A lonely road stretches across the quiet desert, leading toward distant mountains beneath a sky filled with the warm colors of sunset. The open landscape, soft evening light, and endless horizon create a feeling of freedom, solitude, and the simple beauty of traveling through the American West.
Arches National Park is a place where time, wind, and water have shaped the desert into an unforgettable landscape of towering sandstone cliffs, balanced rocks, and more than 2,000 natural stone arches. As the sun moves across the Utah sky, the red rocks seem to glow, creating a constantly changing display of color and light that makes every visit feel special.
During wintertime this road is closed and it has just been opened for the summer season. So this is springtime in Norway :-) Taken early in the morning and the sun is on it's way up. The snow wall is about 3 meters here.
I'd rather not have that damn Prius in the corner of my picture. Anyway, this shot is from the 580 heading into Oakland California.
Just the road and me in my car. The sun is shining and everything is good. I wish just once, I could have back a couple of the cars I used to own.
Happy Window Wednesday

A dash of Pink
-Annette Phillip-
Dull does not become me. Pale, monotonous I laugh at, for they never defined me.
A world in black and white would cause me to shrivel up and die, for I am as bright as the brightest butterfly.
The little girl inside me screams to show off the colors that make a girl girly,
a woman a woman.
The color pink is my absolute favorite, it brings out the very essence of who I have become.
The little girl who loved pink candy cane, pink bubblicious bubble gum which made the biggest pink bubbles no one could miss.
Pink skirts, pink shorts and my dazzling pink sunglasses made me look like a princess from another era.
The sheer color of pink, and the flamboyance nature that it adorns with that dazzling ray of different shades.
The world would be a simpler place if colors were lighter for it would bring about so much laughter.
A night on the town and ready to make a splash is what it's about.
How about a blue dress and what accessories could I wear to make me look so debonair?
I got it, what goes with blue? Why pink is a good mix.
Pink pumps, pink bracelets would catch someone's eye.
Definitely not blah looking, more like dazzle, razzle superstar in the making.
The trees are green and that's amazing, the clouds are white and that's also amazing.
The earth is brown, the sea is blue but without a dash of rose pink, ruby pink, ultra pink and creamy pink tell me where would we be?
In a world lacking in fashion, pizazz, creativity, no future insight to vanity.
We need flair and dramatics, fashionistas in our market and I propose to get us started.
We need to paint the town and make it look oh so darn Pinktastic.

Route 66
Flagstaff, Arizona
June 2023
Route 66 in Flagstaff, Arizona, is a nostalgic stretch of road that embodies the spirit of America's iconic highway. As you traverse this historic route, you'll be captivated by the scenic beauty of Flagstaff's surroundings. Nestled in the picturesque landscapes of the Coconino National Forest, this city offers a unique blend of natural wonders and vibrant urban charm.
Cruising Colusa County with the car windows up. Despite all the warm golden tones, it gets quite cold in the valley during the winter months. Tule fog is also common at this time of the year. Anyone who has driven a few miles in it, with almost zero visibility, knows what I'm talking about. But on this day, there was none of that to worry about.
Happy Fence Friday everyone.
Colusa County CA
My neighbourhood is becoming small and unattractive lately. Driving around and nothing feels inviting. Why is it that we need to fly to another country to find the great photos? This is 10 minutes from my place in Japan. Nothing special but I'm sure to a foreigner they could find something here I am missing.
