Urban impressions from yesterday's excursion into wet and windy Malmo in Sweden. In the foreground the beautiful traditional building housing of the Malmö Pastorat belonging to the Svenska Kyrkan - the Swedish Church - and the building behind, well you guesses right, some of the omnipresent bank towers that rise like unwanted mushrooms in all our cities. I found the juxtaposition of architectural styles very interesting in such proximity.
Shot taken yesterday, on my Monday Urbex day. Inside an old building - looking out at newer buildings.
A scene I came across while on a boat on the Thames. I had to be quick but it caught my eye straight away and I knew what I wanted to portray on this one. I hope it makes sense to you the viewer but for me it was the contrast of what once was in pure isolated beauty towering behind a line of glorious trees vs the modern ugly glass shiny decadence symbols of wealth we see today.
So this is my artistic reflection on modern life and construction. I know which one is my beauty and some may argue and differ in their views.
I am advised that the workshops was about celebrating modern architecture but I have screamingly gone the opposite way in my interpretations :) This one is deliberately "hazy" & undefined as I thought it suited the message well.
Well if you ask me, I'm an old soul, so I prefer old architecture and design.
At Portland we can see old and new buildings side by side all the time, but it is sad for me to see so many old buildings being demolished nowadays. I love the city as is.
In future photos I will share some of the awesome old buildings we have.

The stark contrast between modern architecture featuring building materials such as steel and glass and traditional religious architecture featuring stone and religious icons became evident during a bike ride. The National Gallery of Canada is located near to the Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

The 1896 Canadian Pacific Railway Don station was originally located on the western bank of the Don River, south of Queen St. and was moved to Todmorden Mills in 1969. An important part of building preservation is an appreciation of the context in which the structure existed. Don Station has long lacked any railway context in its previous location at Todmorden Mills. For years, the station was boarded up and not even open to the public. Relocation to Roundhouse Park has allowed the Roundhouse Park Miniature Railway (RPMR) to replace this lost rail context. Passengers for the RPMR are able to purchase tickets and board trains at the Don Station, effectively recreating the station’s original function.

Calvin Presbyterian Church is a Presbyterian Church in Canada congregation located at 26 Delisle Street in the Yonge Street and St. Clair Avenue area of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
The congregation began as a "Minority Group" from nearby Deer Park Presbyterian Church that voted against joining the United Church of Canada in 1925. First known as "Hill District Presbyterians", they later named their congregation after Reformation leader John Calvin.

The butter paddles belong to my mother-in-law, although I'm not sure whether they once belonged to her mother (and so on) or if they're something she found at an auction/antiques shop as she has quite a lot of vintage kitchenalia.

Security keys
Note : the lower part of the older key could be unscrewed in the keyhole. The "ailettes" would block it in the keyhole and no key could be introduced in the keyhole from the other side, thus preventing thieves from using a skeleton key to open the door !
With present-day security keys you have to show a certificate (that goes with the keys) to have the key reproduced.

New And Old..
Driving up main street in Brampton there is an old house that would not be moved and a new condo that had to give way to history and accommodate the old on the new property. that is what I call standing your ground. .

Sometimes I wish I was back in the 90's... before the terrorists attacks, before the twin towers collapse, before ups & downs of economy, before the term & meaning of millennials. But in any time & age the beauty of NYC skyline melts all the ugliness around us, and only its beauty remains, as a reminder that beauty & love always win !!!
