The Trabant is an automobile that was produced from 1957 to 1990 by former East German auto maker VEB Sachsenring Automobilwerke Zwickau in Zwickau, Saxony.

It is often regarded as a symbol of the defunct East Germany, and of the collapse of the Eastern Bloc in general. The car was known for being uncomfortable, slow, noisy, and dirty. Nevertheless, it was very sought after in East Germany before the fall of the Berlin Wall. It had a hard plastic body, mounted to a single-piece steel chassis (a so-called unibody or monocoque), front-wheel drive, a transversely-mounted engine, and independent suspension, features unusual for the era.

Dubbed a "spark plug with a roof", the Trabant was produced for nearly 30 years with almost no significant changes to its design. 3,096,099 vehicles were produced in total. Older models of the car later became popular among collectors in the United States due to their low cost and the fewer restrictions on importing antique cars. The Trabant also gained a following among car tuning enthusiasts and for use in rally racing and other motorsports.

A shell of a vehicle I found in a Kansas field years ago.

"Life is a series of experiences, each one of which makes us bigger, even though sometimes it is hard to realize this. For the world was built to develop character, and we must learn that the setbacks and grieves which we endure help us in our marching onward."

-- Henry Ford (American industrialist & business magnate who was the founder of Ford Motor Company and chief developer of the assembly line technique of mass production)

Three bracketed photos were taken with a handheld Nikon D7200 and combined with Photomatix Pro to create this HDR image. Additional adjustments were made in Photoshop CS6.

Back in the early 1900's many Fiats were built in American in order to avoid the substantial tariffs placed on these imports, and this car was one of those. At the time, Fiats were very expensive, and depending on the coachwork they ranged in price between $3500 and $4500 dollars. And, when you consider the cost of the typical Ford Model T at the time being well under $1000 dollars the Fiats had a huge price tag. And, also huge in size was this car pictured above. One can't really appreciate it's rather intimidating mass until you stand next to it...it's BIG! And powering this one, obviously built for the race track with it's open wheeled configuration, was an equally huge 9 liter 4 cylinder motor pumping out a respectable 75hp. And the sound of it running with it's open headers "snapping, barking, and growling" was also huge on the db scale. And now entering it's 110th year of life it makes a huge presence as it makes the rounds at the show circuits around the country. Did I say "huge" enough? Well, I think you get the picture!

American influence in the design...a desirable car for many at the time...and, in this condition, desirable still, 60 years later.

"And we've all grown older,

come see where we have been,

Out here rusting in the rain."

The glory days of this old Caddy are long gone now. Sad to see what time and neglect can do. : ((

Зато любой сюда войдет за пятачок...
