ODT - Off the Grid

365 Project Day 223: August 11, 2011

Tasty food at the Haight Off the Grid this evening. The dinner was good, as were the cupcakes. Apparently they're so good they need to be photographed. I spent a few minutes taking photos of people while trying not to freeze to death after dinner. Looking at the photo now, it seems everyone except the girls with the cupcake is staring at me disapprovingly. Am I really that creepy when I get the camera out?

I'm working on a project called Sustainable Howe Sound with the David Suzuki Foundation (sustainablehowesound.ca/).

From the website we're building... "Life in the waters of Howe Sound is rebounding after decades of harm from industrial activity. Planning for the future is the best way to protect the sound’s wildlife and communities. Sustainable Howe Sound is a platform for individuals and groups who share a commitment to protect Howe Sound. The end goal is a plan for land and marine environments guided by public and expert input.".

Our first visit was to Camp Firmcom (fircom.ca/) on Gambier Island. Check out the interview and photos! :)

Off the grid brings a wide variety of local food trucks and street food vendors together at a singular location so communities can come together to enjoy entertainment, food, and shared fun. This one was held in West Sacramento at the River Walk Park.

Read about my brilliant friend, Vanessa's, experiences living "off the grid" in a cabin in the woods in her article on Grist. Here she is in the "after" picture.

The two swiss girls were fast friends upon meeting in Samaipata at the hostel we all met at, "Hostel Anderina". The machine they are turning is new to the farm and turns what used to be a literally all day job into a 5 minute job!
