Bougainvillea blooming in the narrow winding alleys at Ano Syros (“Upper Syros”), a picturesque medieval settlement established by the Venetians around 1200 AD, on the island of Syros, South Aegean, Greece.
Ano Syros was sometimes referred to as the “hill of Catholics,” as it used to be inhabited by mainly Catholics islanders, who trace their origins to Venetian merchants and Frankish crusader and settled there as a safer location during the Middle Ages, when the island was subject to frequent raids by pirates.

The Pendung Semurup waterfalls, approximately 15-20 meters in height, can be found on the eastern hills near the town of Semurup, and are reached after an easy, roughly one hour hike through relatively flat farmland and agroforest. My favorite place to get the delicious Kerinci food of Dendeng Batokok, from the village of Siulak Deras, Kerinci, Sumatra, Indonesia.
Similar to the photo with the three boys and blue window in the background, this photo was taken during my experience in Vietnam and reflects the rediscovery of self identity. Without ever having exchanged words to one another, this little girl represents to me the innocence, beauty, and strength of the Vietnamese people… my people.

Looking southeast from Gates Valley Road, near Blue Ridge. This mountain ridge creates a 'rain shadow': More rain falls on this side than the east-facing slopes. Wine grapes are grown in the valley behind me, yet the east side is too dry. The flat farmland seen in the distance supports many other food crops.
Slight detour off the highway since driving past at 70 and trying to take a picture just does not work well! Other one taken Jan 23 so you have to go back to see it as the drive-by!
Thought I'd keep taking a scenic route till I ran into a bridge out from high water!
The sun sets on the cattledrove from Salisbury to Shaftesbury while I look for Chiselbury Camp in the fading light. I'd overshot it here, but hadn't realised that at the time!
Overnight camp out in Chiselbury Camp, an Iron Age hill fort on the top of Fovant Down, famous for it's Great War camp badges carved in the chalk of its slopes. A 40+ mile ride from home in Southampton, up to Salisbury via Romsey and the National Cycle Network Route 24, then to Salisbury Racecourse where I picked up the old cattle drove that goes all the way to Shaftesbury.
Dusk falling meant I overshot my destination in the poor light! I rode another mile or two to Ansty before realising my mistake, and had to backtrack, so by the time I reached the old fort I had missed the sunset there and it was properly dark.
The sunrise made up for that though. Up at 5.30 and a short walk to the chalk cap badges while I brewed up some tea.
Back on the road shortly after, keen to get back before the midday heat.
