Cosinon auto F=1.4 f=55mm - Cosina Company, LTD Japan
The Cosina Company LTD (or Kabushiki-Gaisha Kosshina) is a Japanese camera and lens manufacturer. The company was founded in 1959, is family-owned and managed by its owner.
The initial production of optical lenses was expanded in 1966 with the production of 35mm compact cameras and 8mm film cameras. From 1969 the production of SLR's and the corresponding lenses with glass from own glassworks was started.
Cossina achieved a high degree of recognition in the industry as an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) manufacturer. As an OEM, Cosina has produced camera housings for renowned manufacturers and brands, including Canaon, Contax, Nikon, Olympus, Vivitar and Braun based in Nuremberg. For example, the outstanding Revue 400SE from Cosina came for the photo source, which is also located in Nuremberg.
In the 1980s, Cosina increasingly produced lenses for the third-party market. Some lenses were also marketed under Cosina's own name.
The "Cosinon auto F=1.4 f=55mm" is probably the production sample for the remaining third-party versions.
Until the late 1980s Cosina produced mainly for the mass market. However, as an OEM manufacturer Cosina could not afford any quality carvers. If you hold the lens in your hand, you can feel that it is a good and reliable construction...
