(trofeo Cav. A. Isoleri)

A tribute by the BBC on the 2,500th anniversary of the battle when 300 Spartans took on the mighty Persian army at Thermopylae.
I was humbled when my photo was selected to be on the front cover on such an occasion.

Viewed from the summit of Scratchbury Hill near Warminster in Wiltshire, 66177 and 66069 exit the mist-filled Wylye Valley and head north while working 6V14, the 0515 Eastleigh to Margam.
I have had my eye on this view for some time, requiring an early morning, high summer train heading north through the valley. Late July was arguably too late in the season, but this unusually timed one-off freight taking refurbished steel carriers from Arlington’s Eastleigh works back to South Wales was the first (and in retrospect, only) occasion for me in the summer of 2019.
Driving north through the Wylye Valley, the signs did not look good, with patches of thick fog punctuating the journey. The viewpoint, the Iron-Age hill fort at Scratchbury Camp was a strenuous climb up from the valley floor, and arriving just before 6am, the railway line was still shadowed and bathed in fog.
However, 20 minutes later the swirling mists cleared to reveal a shadowy view of the northern end of the valley and slightly early, the train appeared and was captured in a sunny gap.
macro mondays contribution.
One of quite a few taken for this week's theme so still trying to decide, it will be one of those occasions I decide on the bus in to work!
Done!!
I keep reliving MM challenges, this week sweet spot and inspired by a song!
Ponte Vecchio (sec. XV)

It has some technical flaws, but it is a very beautiful bird, and we only spotted them on 2 or 3 occasions.
I was trying to work in a reference to the Christmas Nutcracker, but the Hooded Merganser doesn't really do any shell cracking - he just eats the crayfish whole after maybe stripping off the legs. He does that with some vigorous shaking, but he does actually chomp down on the legs to snap them off, on occasion. I guess that comes close to qualifying as nut-cracking? My hoodie "season" hasn't been so productive as seasons before - no chase action like this yet, birds much less consistent at my favorite local pond. I do find them irresistibly delightful. This one is from 2021.
L'occasione era unica !!! L'emozione è stata grandissima!!!

Grazie a tutti per la vostra gentilezza! Un saluto
Well it's my favourite wharf in Sydney.
Located at Beulah Street, in Kirribilli.
Harbour action 24/7. On this occasion a very crowded Fishburn Catamaran (Sydney Ferry) is scurrying back to Circular Quay from its trek to Mosman and Cremorne Point.
So to accompany this chilled image of Sydney harbour, here's the ultra cool UB40 with their distinctive version of 'Light My Fire' (the classic song by 'The Doors'):

Driving home on several occasions recently, I noticed a derelict plot in an industrial area a few hundred metres down my road from my home, that looked a likely spot for butterflies. It had a number of self seeded Buddleia bushes and well developed wild flower growth Sure enough, Common Blues, Small Coppers, Small Skipper, and others were present. This was one of the shots I took that morning, before the inevitable clouds rolled in.
This butterfly settled on this flower as the sun disappeared behind a cloud briefly and stayed put for 15 minutes, until the sun emerged again, buffeted by gusts of wind but refusing to budge, no matter what.
Thanks everyone for the faves and comments. Thanks again Darren Chapman for the correction! :-)
My new doll Amalia will be available at xxx Event from 13th to 3rd 2020, June round
I did 5 different tones Genus head, eyes pack, eyeshadow, lipsticks.. for the occasion. Info coming.
The occasion was an outdoor religious ceremony at Foguangshan (佛光山), the largest Buddhist centre in south Taiwan. A nun is seen walking past. It's interesting to note the cute icon of the recent World Games hanging on her bag.
Well I'm going to bore you all again with even more images from that last visit up to Seaham
I came away with so many images I was fairly happy with and as unfortunately we don't seem to be getting away as much as we used to, this is what I have to work with
I've said many times previously how I often see faces in the waves. On this occasion I think the wave looks rather like a sea monster, rising from the deep
The conditions that morning although not great to start with and one or two togs seemed to call it a day, due to the rain. We stuck it out, as the waves continued to pound their way toward shore
Then from no where we got this beautiful light, backlighting the mist/rain as it headed out to sea
It provided a wonderful atmosphere, conditions you don't often get
So here it is, the creature from beneath
Recommendation I keep forgetting to mention - Billy & Molly - Disney Plus

Gloriosa superba, the name itself describes it well. It is native to the Indian and African subcontinents, but has also been introduced to the Americas.
It's Sanskrit name is Agnishikha, meaning flame tipped, and one of the common English name is also flame lily.
As such, it seemed to be an appropriate photo to post on the occasion of Diwali, the festival of lights.
Another Friday, another occasion to party all night long... will you come dance?

Looking down into Cwm Cau from high up on the slopes below the summit of Cadair Idris. I like other frequent mountain goers are lucky enough to have observed these phenomenon on several occasions but they are always a special moment when they occur.
The Brocken spectre is the magnified shadow of the observer cast upon the surface of clouds or mist opposite the sun, sometimes this is accompanied by a halo, the "glory" as the sun interacts with the tiny water droplets in the mist and clouds. It takes it's name from Brocken, a peak in the Harz mountains in Germany.
On the occasion of Cathédrale de Lumière, the Métropole Rouen Normandie and the Normandie Impressionniste festival have entrusted the American visual artist, playwright and director Robert Wilson with the creation of the new audiovisual work projected on the façade of the monument immortalized by Monet. A dreamlike, abstract work that puts into perspective the texts of the African American poet Maya Angelou accompanied by the sublime piano studies of Philipp Glass.
With his Rouen creation, he confronts his abstract universe with a solid building and seizes the history of a city that has suffered, creating powerful images from which emerge the vulnerability and beauty of human existence. This unique show is a declaration of love to human history, in its most moving and complex sense. A monumental artistic event not to be missed.
The poems are read in English by the author and Bob Wilson himself, and in French by Isabelle Huppert who lends her voice to the Rouen show. Students from Fontenelle College and Corneille and Flaubert High Schools also recorded readings of the poems, in English and French, in the BTS audiovisual recording studio at Corneille High School.
