DEAR FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES; THANK YOU FOR VIEWING, FAVING AND COMMENTING MY DIGITAL OBSERVATIONS.
A couple of interesting observations about least terns from this encounter:
1. The "nest" is just a shallow scrape in the sand. The eggs are laid in the scrape and are subject to predation by various critters, and loss due to wind driven high tides depending on where the eggs are laid. Here at Anastasia State Park, the colony was located within a roped off area making it less likely that foot traffic would disturb or destroy the nests.
2. For whatever reason, the entire colony of adults would suddenly fly off. They would fly back momentarily and settle back onto their eggs. The trick was to catch a tern as it landed and then stay focused on it until it reached its nest. This time the strategy worked!
My sincere thanks to all who spend the time to view, like or comment on my photos. It is much appreciated!

Fanad Head Peninsula, County Donegal, Ireland
During this stunning sunrise at Fanad Lighthouse, I witnessed a few wonderful things at once. Mainly was the sky igniting with colour in front of my eyes 😍 welcoming me to the new day ahead. However, the most fascinating part was watching this unsuspecting photographer in my scene buzzing with excitement capturing his own dream sunrise photo. I’m sure he also planned well in advance, woken in the very early hours with little sleep then travelled many miles in the dark to wait here in hope of a vibrant sunrise. I’m delighted that everyone there that morning got their well-earned photographs. It’s not always how pretty the scene in front of us looks…. It’s about how we all react to it that fascinates me most.
Fanad Head Lighthouse was conceived as essential to seafarers following a shipwreck which happened over 200 years ago. In December 1811 the frigate ‘Saldanha’ sought shelter from a storm. Sailing towards Fanad as she frantically fought the raging wind and waves. Sadly, the ship was wrecked off the northern coast with all 250+ men on board.
Shortly afterwards Fanad Head Lighthouse was built to help guide ships and sailors safely on their journeys. Still in operation to this day, standing on a rocky outcrop on north Donegal's Wild Atlantic Way, blinking its guiding light out to sea to aid ships past its inviting yet deceiving rocky waters 🌊

Early yesterday morning I went for a walk on the rocks along the beach. Often these are full of tide pools containing anemones, little fish, snails and crabs. As I walked, these trees caught my eye... their shapes are beautiful and they live in what could be described as very harsh conditions.... during high tide these rocks will be battered with waves and during low tide they could endure harsh sunlight or cold nights. None the less, they survive.... Beautifully.
