This is a true Las Vegas, NV desert Oasis! Winter water fowl float and mimic the shoreline dwellers,during January, amidst a Covid-19 Social Distancing directive. It's been almost one year since the pandemic took hold in the US, and we haven't gotten this thing under control. We must do this together.

Today was an interesting day. It started with snow and heavy winds in Hope Valley, and I decided to drive East off the mountain towards Nevada. Genoa was recommended to me by a couple of people as a place to explore. Genoa is the oldest community in Nevada and was founded in 1851. The original watering hole is still serving beer today.
As I was driving out of town, I wanted to capture some trees that still had yellow leaves on them next to a creek. I got a couple of worthy shots and then I saw this rainbow. Of course, I pulled over when I saw a place that I could frame it well. This was the winner and the beginning of a fun day of exploring.

a derelict chevrolet school bus rots away at the international car forest of the last church. the car forest is a fascinating art project consisting of about 40 cars and buses planted into the dirt of the central nevada desert.

This is another large building ruin in Jefferson. This building is across the creek from the thicket.

I don't know if the buildings name was genuinely thought up by some smug marketing executive but it's meant to convey "eNVy" if you didn't want to live there. I just hope it's an urban myth!
The NV Buildings were designed by Broadway Maylan and completed between 2004 and 2005. The development consists of three 18-storey residential towers, each 180 feet (55 m) in height. Costing £36 million, they stand in a line overlooking Huron Basin from the waterside of Pier 9 (North Wharf), their curved frontages are designed to represent sails. At night, the buildings are illuminated by green lights atop curved poles, and green flood light to either side.
There are now more tower blocks under construction behind them, hence the crane on the right.
I have been hearing about Rachel quite a bit lately, with the "storm area 51" news. Here it is, not a ghost town but a real town. 148 miles to the nearest Wal Mart. You can drive pretty fast during the day, but I recommend you slow way down at night - that Open Range sign means cattle and wild horses can easily be on the road. Area 51 is out of frame on the left.
