THOMAS JEFFERSON ENSLAVED 600+ AFRICAN-AMERICANS.

Thomas Jefferson helped to create a new nation based on individual freedom and self-government. His words in the Declaration of Independence expressed the aspirations of the new nation. But the Declaration did not extend “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness” to African Americans, indentured servants, or women. Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration and called slavery an “abominable crime,” yet he was a lifelong slaveholder.

My grandparents operated a grocery store in which they used these weights (and a few bigger "brothers"). After years of use, they weren't of use anymore as modern scales took over. A few years ago they reappeared and I gave them a nice place in my house. They are a precious memory of my grandparents, aunts, and a time that has passed.

Macro Mondays: Numbers and Letters

I had no ruler handy and asked several people, but I found none. So I ended up measuring the picture through a very scientific method, by folding an A4 paper in 3 and checking that the length of the folded page was superior to the photographed items (which, by the way, I have no idea what games they come from, except for the Connect Four board). Macro Monday themes sometimes have people looking strangely at me.

A capacitor, for macro mondays I often look in my husband's stock for a subject. :-)

Now I just need to learn to get past basic addition.

Optical sound synchronization ID frames on 35mm SMPTE Universal Leader film. (16mm copies could be made from 35mm originals, hence the 16mm frame.) The 35mm frame was printed 20 frames ahead of the Picture Start frame; 16mm, 26 frames ahead. The marker orientation indicated the location of the sound reader: outboard for 35mm, inboard for 16mm.

Maybe too much messing about for Macro Mondays, but I do like how the product codes on the base of this aluminium can popped out with Neon image processing in Picasa.

This photo was taken at the Dutch Steam Engine Museum in Medemblik.

The Dutch Steam Engine Museum is a hidden gem on the dike between the polder and IJsselmeer, just outside Medemblik (NH). Here you will find a unique collection of steam engines and models in a former steam pumping station. Experience the pure technique of visible, audible and smellable mechanisms, powered by water and fire. Discover how steam engines and steam machines work and their role in the industrial revolution and the fight against water. Enter the world of water and steam.

The Macro Mondays theme for this week is "Numbers and Letters"

For this week's MM theme, I again, thought of an old friend who's been with me for decades. We spent a lot of nights solving endless problems together and she always got me through each one of them. Things have changed a lot since but I decided to keep her all these years. I'm sure someone out there might still have a slide rule hiding somewhere.

This merkpoint is about 7 cm wide.

In Nederland zijn in elke wijk gemarkeerde waterpunten voor de brandweer. Elk punt heeft zijn eigen code: een letter en een cijfer.

In the Netherlands, there are marked water points for the fire brigade in every district. Each point has its own code: a letter and a number.

Thanks for taking time to fave, comment and look at my work. I really appreciate.

My contribution for this week's Macro Monday theme "anachronism" is this pocket watch. Once worn with great pride in another time, another century. Now it has a beautiful and special place in our house and it makes me aware that nothing lasts forever, that you have to take life as it comes. Life in all its beautiful and less beautiful moments. I wish you all a very good week with many wonderful moments!

Thanks for your views, faves and comments, they are welcome and appreciated.
