Macro Mondays - My Favourite Novel (Fiction).

HMM all my friends!

Nils Holgersson's wonderful journey

Selma Lagerlöf

The novel was originally written as a reading book in Swedish geography and was included in the series Reading Books for Sweden's childhood schools. It's about Nils Holgersson, a boy who enchanted into a leprechaun because he was lazy and angry with the animals and who traveled across Sweden through a tame goose. Although it was thought to be a book of reading in Swedish geography, the book has been translated into many languages. The book was the Swedish children's book that, until Astrid Lindgren's great success, Pippi Longstocking was translated into most languages, over 60.

The silhouettes, shadows and hints of light.. It's like living a mystery novel and I'm the detective.

That's about as exciting as it gets for me folks.. And I'm sticking with it.

some moments tell a whole novel ... and only rarely ... very rarely indeed ... you can manage to capture such a moment ... because this capturing all too often destroys these moments ...

From Sonnet 18

It is well known now as Shakespeare's phrase "The Darling Buds of May" was used as the title for his novel by H.E. Bates... which has since been adapted for television too 😊

Apologies for using my Japanese plum in 3 successive photos - I am enjoying it before it freezes (-2.6c last night)

Sonnet 18

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?

Thou art more lovely and more temperate:

Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,

And summer’s lease hath all too short a date;

Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,

And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;

And every fair from fair sometime declines,

By chance or nature’s changing course untrimm'd;

But thy eternal summer shall not fade,

Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st;

Nor shall death brag thou wander’st in his shade,

When in eternal lines to time thou grow’st:

So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,

So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

Sancho Panza is a fictional character in the novel Don Quixote written by Spanish author Don Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra in 1605. Sancho acts as squire to Don Quixote and provides comments throughout the novel, known as sanchismos, that are a combination of broad humour, ironic Spanish proverbs, and earthy wit. "Panza" in Spanish means "belly".

Sancho is illiterate and proud of it but by influence of his new master, he develops considerable knowledge about some books.

Sancho Panza represents, among other things, the quintessentially Spanish brand of skepticism of the period.

The Sacra of San Michele is a fascinating abbey located on Mount Pirchiriano in front of the city of Turin. It was founded between 983 and 987. It became an important Benedectine monasticism in the Middle Age. There are several legends connected to this beautiful and unique place. It is believed that Umberto Eco was inspired by this building for his famous novel "The name of the rose".

Although it is not in the city of Turin, the abbey is considered in the metropolitan area of the city. So I took the liberty to add it to the project

Fun with Photoshop. I took the image of E and I from Stable Diffusion and spent a good part of the day using photoshop to make another "Found Novel" book cover.

This base started out as something for my Battle for the Moon theme but it ended up with too much 1970s sci-fi paperback flavour, so I just tagged along for the ride :-)

Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said is a futuristic novel written by Philip K. Dick in 1974. It depicts the US as a police state after a second civil war. It was set in 1988, so I guess we got a reprieve...

Numbers of these "novel" Katiannids (I never know what to call them!) appearing in our Staffordshire garden at the moment. Quite a proportion are "pale" individuals with reduced numbers of pigment spots. This one has a concentration of spots towards the rear of the large abdomen. Haven't seen this before.

Could the levels of pigmentation be related to when they last moulted?

I've been an avid reader before I even started school. I was taught to read at home by my mother and taught in the Welsh Language ( later taught to read in English at the age of 7 at school)

I found it difficult to choose a favourite novel, being a bit of a bookworm, so I based my choice of book on one my mother gave me to read at the age of 14 - The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. As a young adult it introduced me to American Literature, opened my eyes to American History, and in later years the poetry. The humourist in me though couldn't resist a shot like this :-)
