My first acquaintance with Steven King. I love this book "The Shining" and also the movie with Jack Nicholson, a great actor!

If you never have read it or saw the movie and you like horror stories, it is a must to read and see ;-))

I like his style of writing, it is always plausible how the story line grows, but at some point there is that creepy feeling that you know it can't be.

For the Macro Mondays Theme: My Favourite Novel (Fiction).

Happy Macro Monday everyone!!!!

The first adaptation of the novel “Dr. No” by Ian Fleming was filmed in 1962 on the island of New Providence, in the Bahamas. The film starred Sean Connery as the famous James Bond character. The scene where Bond arrives at the airport on the island was filmed in Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas. Moonfleet Beach was the filming location for Bond's bathing scene with Honey Ryder. The final scene was filmed at the Blue Lagoon on Grand Bahama Island. New Providence and Grand Bahama are the islands where the movie Dr No was filmed.

It is thought that this ancient tree - an oak planted during the reign of Henry Vlll - inspired the legendary character Treebeard in JRR Tolkien's Lord Of The Rings. Tolkien lived nearby and would walk these woods sparking his imagination to write his stories.

Treebeard was a giant tree that could walk and talk in Tolkien's novel. Such a tree was considered an Ent, and there were other Ents in Lord Of The Rings too.

The tree is natural and has not been adapted which makes it even more amazing.

I love to shoot in fog.

The silhouettes, shadows and hints of light.. It's like living a mystery novel and I'm the detective.

That's about as exciting as it gets for me folks.. And I'm sticking with it.

The Name of the Rose is a 1986 historical mystery film directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud, based on the 1980 novel of the same title by Umberto Eco.

Most interior scenes were filmed at Eberbach Abbey in the Rheingau region. The scenes set within the library's labyrinthine interior were shot at the Cinecittà Studios near Rome. For the abbey's exterior shots, one of the largest sets in European film history was constructed starting in mid-1985 on a hill near Prima Porta, a suburb of Rome, based on designs by Dante Ferretti. This included a 30-meter-high library tower modeled after Castel del Monte. Landscape shots were filmed in the Abruzzo region, northeast of L’Aquila. Additional scenes were shot at the castle in Molina de Aragón, Spain.

In the novel 'The War of the Worlds', author H.G. Wells has the Martians land on an isolated Surrey Heath, so it seems entirely in keeping that these 'aliens' are in a similar location at their only UK site. I went to have a look a fortnight ago but recent rain had washed them out. Since then some more 'eggs' had hatched and I was lucky to see them in various stages of development, including this one with intact tentacles emerging from the leaf litter. I fear that tomorrow's forecast heavy rain may once again defeat the aliens : )

I had a romance novel inside me.

I've been an avid reader before I even started school. I was taught to read at home by my mother and taught in the Welsh Language ( later taught to read in English at the age of 7 at school)

I found it difficult to choose a favourite novel, being a bit of a bookworm, so I based my choice of book on one my mother gave me to read at the age of 14 - The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. As a young adult it introduced me to American Literature, opened my eyes to American History, and in later years the poetry. The humourist in me though couldn't resist a shot like this :-)

I'm sure I'm not the only one who would have thought of choosing this, The Catcher in the Rye is one of those iconic, touching novels, that I have revisited over the years having first read it in my teens. The title of the novel is down from the central character's, Caulfield's, misinterpretation of line from a Robbie Burns poem, and he imagines himself as the 'Catcher'. I have depicted him here as the Jack of Hearts.

Tullah is the town which features in Richard Flannagan's novel 'The Sound Of One Hand Clapping' which explores themes of migration, family and the 'Past' As native flora returns to this scarred landscape, there are still glimpses of the beauty many immigrants sought to bring to their harsh lives during this period. Many rejecting completely the indigenous habitat and customs for what they knew.
