The Dent d'Oche is a mountain in Haute-Savoie, in the Chablais massif, close to the French-Swiss border, which culminates at an altitude of 2,222 metres. Located on the border of the communal territories of Bernex and Novel, it dominates Evian, Thonon and Lake Geneva.

My first acquaintance with Steven King. I love this book "The Shining" and also the movie with Jack Nicholson, a great actor!
If you never have read it or saw the movie and you like horror stories, it is a must to read and see ;-))
I like his style of writing, it is always plausible how the story line grows, but at some point there is that creepy feeling that you know it can't be.

The first adaptation of the novel “Dr. No” by Ian Fleming was filmed in 1962 on the island of New Providence, in the Bahamas. The film starred Sean Connery as the famous James Bond character. The scene where Bond arrives at the airport on the island was filmed in Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas. Moonfleet Beach was the filming location for Bond's bathing scene with Honey Ryder. The final scene was filmed at the Blue Lagoon on Grand Bahama Island. New Providence and Grand Bahama are the islands where the movie Dr No was filmed.

I love to shoot in fog.
The silhouettes, shadows and hints of light.. It's like living a mystery novel and I'm the detective.

some moments tell a whole novel ... and only rarely ... very rarely indeed ... you can manage to capture such a moment ... because this capturing all too often destroys these moments ...

I have not read Nella Larsen's 1929 novel "Passing", which is about "racial passing". Bastian will never pass as a Somali, but in fact both are genetically black tabby cats (sic!).

* Since reading Ian McEwan’s 2007 novel “ On Chesil Beach “ I have wanted to see this strange geological structure .
Chesil is not your typical British beach lined with stripy deckchairs and pastel painted beach-huts but wild, rugged and at the mercy of Mother Nature. John Fowles, captures the landscape of Chesil perfectly in his quote: ..... “It is above all an elemental place, made of sea, shingle and sky, its dominant sound always that of waves on moving stone”
The beach runs for a length of 18 miles from West Bay to the Isle of Portland and in places is up to 50 ft high and 660 ft wide. Behind the beach is the Fleet, a shallow tidal lagoon. The lagoon is home to the mute swan colony at Abbotsbury, the only place in the world where you can walk through a nesting colony of mute swans.
The pebbles on Chesil Beach are graded in size from potato-sized near Portland to pea-sized at Bridport and are made up of mainly flint and chert from the Cretaceous and Jurassic rocks, along with Bunter pebbles from Budleigh Salterton. It is believed that smugglers landing on the beach at night could could judge their position along the coast simply by picking up a handful of shingle.
Both the beach and the Swannery are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Chapter 3: Redī to~u ranburu
(Ready to Rumble!)
The Wandarāzu have made the journey to Gōzā no Masutā’s Teitaku no ie. Rokudenashi tells Gōzā no Masutā that he must take his Gōzā and leave this land of Kūki and never return. Gōzā no Masutā laughs at these Wandarāzu “who are you to tell me to leave this place that I have made my own?”.
The command to attack is given to the Gōzās, and they lunge towards the Wandarāzu. The battle of Kūki has began. Shiroi ōkami meets one of Gōzās with help of Nikku Yemana holds him at bay. Hikaru Sulu is left to fend off the other Gōzā himself.
Gōzā no Masutā Has set his eyes on our hero, He has pushed Rokudenashi onto the bridge, where with a downward swing from his mighty Katana, he has delivered the fatal blown on Gōzā no Masutā. With their master defeated the Gōzās Flee Kūki never to be seen again.

I've been an avid reader before I even started school. I was taught to read at home by my mother and taught in the Welsh Language ( later taught to read in English at the age of 7 at school)
I found it difficult to choose a favourite novel, being a bit of a bookworm, so I based my choice of book on one my mother gave me to read at the age of 14 - The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. As a young adult it introduced me to American Literature, opened my eyes to American History, and in later years the poetry. The humourist in me though couldn't resist a shot like this :-)
Emma is getting into the October spirit a little early with decorating and reading spooky books.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who would have thought of choosing this, The Catcher in the Rye is one of those iconic, touching novels, that I have revisited over the years having first read it in my teens. The title of the novel is down from the central character's, Caulfield's, misinterpretation of line from a Robbie Burns poem, and he imagines himself as the 'Catcher'. I have depicted him here as the Jack of Hearts.
