Snæfellsjökull, a 700,000 year old volcanic mountain in western Iceland was made famous by Jules Verne in the 1864 novel "Journey to the Center of the Earth" as the entrance to a passage leading to the center of the earth. When gazing upon this magnificent mountain it's hard not to stop and stare. While traveling or in life it's often easy to forget to stop and savor the moments. That's a message that my friend and amazing landscape photographer Patrick Di Fruscia (pictured here) embodies and lives by and something we would all be wise to remind ourselves to do every once in a while.
By the way, these rocks are slippery little buggers when wet and I have a scar to remind me :O
Suzanne Vega is one of my favorite singers. This song Luka was so impressive that I couldn't get it out of my head after I heard it for the first time. Last year I read Dennis Lehane's The Kenzie-Gennaro novels. I couldn't help relate the song to the main characters' stories, Patrick Kenzie's childhood and Angela Gennaro's marriage. Dark, sad... Like the tears on the lotus flower's petals...

I love books. I've read so many that it's almost impossible to pick just one favourite, but for today I've chosen a novel I recently read and absolutely loved, called "All the Light We Cannot See" by Anthony Doerr. It's an achingly beautiful historical tale set in France and Germany during WWII, and won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2015.

some moments tell a whole novel ... and only rarely ... very rarely indeed ... you can manage to capture such a moment ... because this capturing all too often destroys these moments ...

The name Piz Gloria originated in Ian Fleming's James Bond novel On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1963), wherein the hideout of the villain, Ernst Stavro Blofeld, is a mountain-top building containing an allergies investigation clinic.

This base started out as something for my Battle for the Moon theme but it ended up with too much 1970s sci-fi paperback flavour, so I just tagged along for the ride :-)

Numbers of these "novel" Katiannids (I never know what to call them!) appearing in our Staffordshire garden at the moment. Quite a proportion are "pale" individuals with reduced numbers of pigment spots. This one has a concentration of spots towards the rear of the large abdomen. Haven't seen this before.
Could the levels of pigmentation be related to when they last moulted?
And would it have been worth it, after all,
Would it have been worth while,
After the sunsets and the dooryards and the sprinkled streets,
After the novels, after the teacups, after the skirts that trail along the floor—
And this, and so much more?—
It is impossible to say just what I mean!
But as if a magic lantern threw the nerves in patterns on a screen:
Would it have been worth while
If one, settling a pillow or throwing off a shawl,
And turning toward the window, should say:
“That is not it at all,
That is not what I meant, at all.”
I've been an avid reader before I even started school. I was taught to read at home by my mother and taught in the Welsh Language ( later taught to read in English at the age of 7 at school)
I found it difficult to choose a favourite novel, being a bit of a bookworm, so I based my choice of book on one my mother gave me to read at the age of 14 - The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. As a young adult it introduced me to American Literature, opened my eyes to American History, and in later years the poetry. The humourist in me though couldn't resist a shot like this :-)

Solaris is a film by Andrei Tarkovsky based on the eponymous novel by Stanisław Lem. A fact from the filming: to capture intricate details, Tarkovsky filmed the ocean using an ordinary basin with water on a table.
Solaris represents the subconscious realm in memory, intertwined with profound traumas and experiences, conscience, inner secrets, hidden hopes, and dreams.
Everyone has their own Solaris.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who would have thought of choosing this, The Catcher in the Rye is one of those iconic, touching novels, that I have revisited over the years having first read it in my teens. The title of the novel is down from the central character's, Caulfield's, misinterpretation of line from a Robbie Burns poem, and he imagines himself as the 'Catcher'. I have depicted him here as the Jack of Hearts.

Sorry for the late post, due to RL
I don't read a lot of fiction so for this weeks Macro Mondays theme "My Favourite Novel (Fiction)" I chose to google a fictional novel to represent and came upon "A Clash of Kings".
This was going to be a fairly easy one to represent as I could either have used a chess board or a pack of playing cards.
I chose the chess board and after first focussing on my ruler to frame for the 3 inch rule I then set up the board and then positioned my tripod so that the kings were in focus.
I used some of my sons Play-Doh to make the kings lean toward each other and then angled the camera for a slightly more dynamic view.
I shot the same composition at a series of different aperture settings and chose f/8 as it had the effect I Ilked the most.
I have included a link to a Wikipedia page about the book below.
