It's as if the sunflowers already knew what was about to happen, as they tilted their heads as if that would bring something. Thank you little suns for this opportunity.

On Munich's Fröttmaninger Heide one blade from Portugal in the southwest of Europe meets another from Finland in the northeast of Europe. There's about 3,400 km great circle distance between the locations of the two knife makers - and Munich is not on that great circle.... 😁.

The Finnish blade is a Wood Jewel "Vuolu 10", the Portuguese blade is a José da Cruz "Merendeira".

A view of the Lincoln Theater, last known as the Lincoln Grand 8, in the 200 block of S. Kickapoo St. in downtown Lincoln. The architectural style of the original theater is Italian Villa, a design that is typically asymmetrical while the Italianate style emphasizes symmetry. The Lincoln Theater is a contributing property in the Lincoln Courthouse Square Historic District that was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985

.

The Lincoln Theater opened in early-1923 with the Lon Chaney film “John Quincy Adams Sawyer”. In addition to cinema, the theater featured an organ and live stage shows well into the 1930’s. In 1985, the Lincoln Theater was twinned, and was turned into a quad in the mid-1990s. A $6M addition in 2016 added four more screens, 775 seats, a new lobby and exterior streetscape. Rechristened as the Lincoln Grand 8, the theater closed in late 2018 after the owners defaulted on a $3.9M bank loan. Additionally, the city of Lincoln, which had bet on the theater project helping to attract more business and customers downtown, was out $2.3M in Tax Increment Financing (TIF) bond proceeds.

As of October 2020, the Lincoln Grand 8 Theater is on the market for $1.2M. The sale includes more than 42,000 square feet spread among three buildings - the original theater which opened in 1922, the 2016 addition, and a 1920s-built commercial building at the corner of S. Kickapoo and Clinton St.

Although the current pandemic environment has not been disastrous to cinemas, hopefully the theater will find a buyer.

Lincoln is the seat of Logan County, which is situated in central Illinois approximately 26 miles northeast of Springfield, the state capitol. The estimated population of Lincoln in 2018 was 13,685.

Some days the sunset clouds line up in unusual directions.... in this case about 90 degrees from the angle that would be more common that time of year. Alas, it seems winter has arrived here this week..... at least it chased away the Colorado fire smoke we had the past few days.

Wikipedia: The grey peacock-pheasant (Polyplectron bicalcaratum), also known as Burmese peacock-pheasant, is a large Asian member of the order Galliformes.

It is a large pheasant, up to 76 cm long and greyish brown with finely spotted green eyespots, an elongated bushy crest, bare pink or yellow facial skin, white throat, and grey iris, bill and legs. The sexes are rather similar, but the female is smaller, darker and less ornamented than the male. The young resemble the female.

The grey peacock-pheasant is distributed in lowland and hill forests of Bangladesh, Northeast India and Southeast Asia, but excluding most of Indochina as well as the entire Malayan Peninsula. The diet consists mainly of seeds, termites, fruits and invertebrates. The female usually lays two eggs.

Conservation status: Least Concern

ome 250 kilometers northeast of Kunming, the capital of China's Yunnan Province, lies Dongchuan, a rural area with the world's most imposing red earth. Spread over vast terraced fields, Dongchuan’s unusual brownish-red color comes from its rich deposit of iron and copper. Exposed to the warm and humid climate of Yunnan, the iron in the soil undergoes oxidization to form iron oxide which is naturally red in color. These oxides, deposited through many years, gradually developed into the extraordinary reddish brown soil seen here today. Every year during spring, when this area is ploughed for agriculture, a large number of visitors and photographers come to see squares of freshly upturned red earth waiting to be sown along with areas of budding green plants. The fiery red soil juxtaposed with emerald green barley, and golden yellow buckwheat, against a blue sky produces one of the richest color palate rarely seen in nature.

The 3rd Ave Bridge cuts through the Northeast neighborhood into downtown Minneapolis on a very colorful winter twilight hour.

A little late on this but today (December 11th) was a milestone marker for sun watchers at least here in northeast Oklahoma, December 11 ended the 10 days of shortest evenings this season. November 30th thru December 10th the sunsets at the earliest point 5:09pm then on December 11th the sun sets at 5:10pm. Yes the shortest day of the year still happens on December 21st, which has a sunset at 5:14pm. Then by the end of December the sunset has grown to 5:19 so a ten minute difference from 1st of December to the end of December. Not sure how it all adds up in your location but here at Latitude 36.0609° N, and Longitude 95.7975° W, the light is happening in the PM.

Not sure but I think its the male. I think that only because it flew in from over the northeast, over the trees which is the usual route of that male of that Centerport family..

Just north of my home from a country road overlooking a pasture with a lonely Cottonwood tree. I took a lot of photos of this setting of the sun. I did not expect it to light up as it did. Patience sometimes pays.

Northeast Creek Reservoir

There was a whole village of these falling down sheds and barns by the road near Lawrence KS. There were no trespassing signs all over the place though so my heaven was not complete. Would have loved to be able to walk amongst them and get many more shots.

Offered once again as a comparison to the preceding image of Amtrak 662 which was captured at nearly the same angle over 23 years later. Amtrak 916 leads a regional consist east through Edison, NJ. Based on the time of day and consist, this may have been train 95, the Old Dominion. Back then trains still carried names, although the "Northeast Direct" designation (a precursor to today's Northeast Regional service) did appear in the timetable as well.

Hverir, Northeast Iceland 20200802

Hverir is one of the most active geothermal areas in all of Iceland. Also known as Hverarönd, this region stands out for its ochre-colored landscapes and the numerous fumaroles and boiling mud pools dotted over its moon-like terrain.

In spite of the intense smell of sulfur, its curious geothermal activity entices visitors to walk along Hverir's trails and marvel at the natural wonders of Earth. Due to the high heats of the subsoil at Hverir, it's very important not to leave the signposted paths, both to preserve the impressive landscapes and to avoid getting burned by the steam from the fumaroles or putting your foot in a boiling mire!
