With the Norman Bates actor coming toward the tram.
Would love to go back to Universal & get more shots of the Psycho set but I don't see it happening.

I’m not saying this lovely nursing home in Bradford looks anything like Mrs Bates’ house in Psycho but…

Here we go friends.....after 20 minutes of sunrise glory I get dark skies at Pulau Ubin! One of the shacks on the island. The light seeping thru the clouds gave the wet patch on the sand a glow. further processing to accentuate the glow and other areas.
Tone mapped from 4 exposures and blended with 2. Black & White adjustment layer and unmasked the boat
Happy Weekend Friends
I was hoping to stop off at the Psycho set again like we did on our 2006 VIP tour so I could get some shots on B&W film. I didn't know about the "scare" with an actor playing Norman Bates coming out. They didn't have this when I was a kid, so they must have implemented it later on at some stage.
Taken in 2008.

Room within a derelict farmhouse. The natural light is coming through the upper floor. The rocking chair put me in mind of the Alfred Hitchcock film Psycho and its lead character Norman Bates.

It is Paprihaven's annual 13 Daze of Halloween countdown! This year, will the fearless Blue Ranger, Akiko, remain fearless when she finds herself in the most famous, frightening, fantastically foreboding films of horror?

The great impact of this Alfred Hitchcock movie was not so much the psychological horror, but the swerve. That unexpected turn midway through. Hitchcock even released movie posters with the blurb, "No one... but NO ONE... will be allowed in after the screening starts."
Audiences settled in to what seemed, frame by frame, to be the typical, well made Hitchock mystery thriller. Janet Leigh was a huge star and it was expected that she would be in the entire film as her embezzlement scheme unraveled.
Then there was the shower scene. And so, added to the excellently staged visuals of the brutality of the knife attack, and Bernard Herrmann's frenzied violin score accompanying the attack, was the fact unfolding before the audience that Janet Leigh was being murdered.
That just didn't happen to the main star, and that was the shock that completed the swerve from a crime drama into full-fledged psychological horror.

With Mum standing in front of the Bates House on our Universal Studios VIP tour in 2006.
We did have a little bit to walk around the Psycho set too which was amazing. Our tour guide Will was wonderful.
How creepy is Bates Motel, where Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" was filmed? There is an actor playing Norman Bates who is always lurking outside. The tram tour goes by, filled with tourists, and he chases them with a knife. But get this -- if I walk up there on foot (a short walk from my office), he chases *me* too! I hate that guy! He takes his role too seriously and he frightens me. (If you haven't seen the movie, Norman Bates dresses up like his mother and murders the unsuspecting guests staying at his motel.)
So my daughter was a real trooper because I got her up to the motel around 8:00 am, well before "Norman" goes on duty. We are not morning people, so I was proud of her. Here she is playing an unsuspecting soul, checking into Bates Motel, since the vacancy light is on. The vintage dress and vintage suitcases were wonderful finds on eBay.

"It's sad, when a mother has to speak the words that condemn her own son. But I couldn't allow them to believe that I would commit murder. They'll put him away now, as I should have years ago. He was always bad, and in the end he intended to tell them I killed those girls and that man... as if I could do anything but just sit and stare, like one of his stuffed birds."

Could This be more different from the last few uploads :o). I was out with friends on Sunday exploring to see what old and abandoned stuff we could find. This place caught my attention from the highway, I must have been past it dozens of times but never investigated it before. It was well and truly boarded up, so no getting into any of the rooms sadly. But with the dreary sky and the spooky tree it definitely begged the question...Where's Norman? :o)
"Oh, but she's harmless. She's as harmless as one of those stuffed birds."

"In Norman's case, he was simply doing everything possible to keep alive the illusion of his mother being alive. And when reality came too close, when danger or desire threatened that illusion - he dressed up, even to a cheap wig he bought. He'd walk about the house, sit in her chair, speak in her voice. He tried to be his mother ! And, uh... now he is. "
