Sheffield, 03/04/07

Whatever people spray i am...Jamie Cook sees the funny side of covering his bandmates in smoke. This cheeky shot was snapped during a break on our latest Arctic Monkeys shoot, which took place in their hometown of sheffield last week. The full story runs in a couple of weeks, but we thought we'd give you this sneaky preview. For now, turn to page 28 to read NME's definitive review of new album 'Favourite Worst Nightmare'.

The Strokes

Colin: "This was taken in their rehearsal studio befor they started their second album. As well as this shot, I even got my own private gig."

First release by NME / Rough Trade Tapes 1981. To get this you had to order it through the New Musical Express. 30,000 copies were sent out. I still have the original 32-page Owner's Manual; which you had to put together by cutting out various pages over a number of weeks from the NME and then folding and assembling them. You had to be patient in those days. Computers and internet weren't around then.

This is an update on two original posts that only featured the cassette and the cover artwork. (24 january 2022)

KLAXONS

Los Angeles, 28/04/07

It was only a matter of time before they ended up in Hollywood. Having conjured up their own world on 'Myths Of The Near Future', Klaxons arrived in the land of cinematic make-believe last week, re-creating classic movie Singing In The Rain as a fluoro rave on Hollywood Boulevard. A day later they were heading for Coachella. See next week's issue for the review.

Younger Reader, before the Internet you had to buy a weekly 'inkie' like the NME to find out what was happening... Imagine that.

Foals (l-r) Walter, Jack, Yannis, Jimmy, Edwin: You're not American, Yannis, you need an 's' on your little finger

Why buy NME when most of it's a load of shite? Flick through it in the shop, like I did, when I was looking for a photo of The Boyfriends.
