Chemnitz, the Saxon city of modernism, will be the European Capital of Culture in 2025. For Europe Week, the company´s Snälltaget night train was extended from Stockholm via Berlin and Dresden on Friday, May 9, 2025.
There will be another opportunity to photograph the train to Central Saxony in August and September.
I photographed the train between Freiberg and Oederan at lunchtime at the Wegefarth Viaduct, just before its destination.
Die sächsische Stadt der Moderne, Chemnitz, ist im Jahr 2025 Kulturhauptstadt Europas.
Zur Europawoche wurde der Nachtzug des Unternehmens Snälltaget, am 09.05.25 von Stockholm über Berlin und Dresden hinaus am Freitag verlängert. Im August und September gibt es abermals die Gelegenheit, den Zug nach Mittelsachsen abzulichten.
Am Wegefarther Viadukt fotografierte ich den Zug zwischen Freiberg und Oederan in der Mittagszeit, kurz vorm Ziel.

Durch die Hochwasserereignisse im Mai 2013 waren einige Strecken in Deutschland nicht befahrbar, was zu entsprechenden Umleitungsverkehren führte.
So war unter anderem im Haunetal jede Menge Fernverkehrszüge unterwegs.
Zwei junge Schwarzwälder machten sich auf um dem Treiben einmal zu folgen.
So landeten sie am Mittag des 09. Juli 2013 in Hermannspiegel mit seinem bekannten Fotomotiv.
Man wartete auf die Dinge die da so kommen. Als eine 120 ums Eck bog, geil, doch halt was hatte die hinten dran. Den Russenzug, uih.
Die 120 entpuppte sich als 120 144 die mit dem EN 452 "TransEuropean Express" (Moskva-Belorusskaja - Paris Est) an den zufriedenen Fotografen vorbeirauschte.
Der Zug wurde mit Corona eingestellt und nie wieder eingeführt, was angesichts der aktuellen Lage kein Wunder ist.
Besser erging es 120 144, sie fährt heute in orientrot für die SEL weiter durch deutsche Lande.

Tijdens de terugreis uit Salou en zijn omgeving werd er, net zoals op de heenreis, op gezette tijden gestopt voor een overnachting. De eerste halte was strategisch gekozen in Narbonne, van waaruit ik binnen een half uur in Leucate en Port-la-Nouvelle kon zijn. Dat plan werd in alle vroegte uitgevoerd, zeker omdat voor zondag 20 juli 2025 helder weer was voorspeld.
Boven de hier aanwezige waterpartijen was de lucht inderdaad mooi blauw, maar over zee hing nog wat vervelende restbewolking die een ongestoorde zonsopkomst in de weg stond. Het wolkendek was niet dik, eerder sluierachtig. Hoe dan ook, ik was toch al op en besloot er het beste van te maken.
In Leucate kreeg ik eerst twee TGV’s voor de lens — eentje richting Parijs (met ISO 1600) en eentje richting Brussel (met ISO 800). Daarna kon ik voor het eerst een Omneo fotograferen (jawel, nog steeds op ISO 800). Na de doortocht van deze TER ging het in hoog tempo naar Port-la-Nouvelle, waar ik nog een paar minuten speling had voordat de nachttrein vanuit Parijs het station zou binnenrollen.
Hoewel de fotopunten op Île Sainte-Lucie ongetwijfeld mooier zijn, liggen die niet meteen binnen handbereik. Toch is ook dit zicht — in licht tegenlicht, dankzij de sluierbewolking zonder harde schaduwen — beslist de moeite waard. Zeker met een Nez Cassé op kop, die je tegenwoordig in Frankrijk al bijna moet gaan opzoeken.

On my return journey from Salou and its surroundings, I made an overnight stop in Narbonne, strategically chosen so I could reach Leucate and Port-la-Nouvelle within half an hour. Early on Sunday 20 July 2025, I headed out under clear skies above the lagoons, although some thin cloud over the sea muted the sunrise.
In Leucate, I caught two TGVs — one to Paris (ISO 1600) and one to Brussels (ISO 800) — followed by my first-ever sighting of an Omneo (still ISO 800). After that TER passed, I rushed to Port-la-Nouvelle, arriving just in time for the Paris night train.
While the Île Sainte-Lucie offers more scenic viewpoints, this location still delivered a pleasing result — especially with a Nez Cassé in the lead, a locomotive type you now have to actively seek out in France.

Yesterday it was announced that the legendary Isted Grill are for sale. The place has been there for 45 years, run by "Mr. Lee", making everything from flæskesteg sandwich to spring rolls. The photo here is from a few months ago, my wife got hungry when we where out for an evening walk and is standing in the door.

Comet 2020 F3 Neowise is seen here in the northwest over the westbound cantilever at Cadiz, Ca on the BNSF Needles Subdivision. Unfortunately, I failed to properly focus on the stars and shot at too high of an ISO but I have now learned that lesson the hard way...
