LOCK-DOWN
In many ways it seems that LOCKDOWN has not totally passed by although we are still getting our boosters, for those that are in bad health or over 75. Currently in the GB (14-07-2022) there are over 2.7 million people with Covid, so contagion fully in check.
These following images were taken at a time when full lockdown was in place and things were very different. However this is the last of the postings.
One of the books that I read during that time. A wonderful author who died suddenly. Sorely missed, his books were so descriptive and imaginative.

Introduction by Andre Gide
Most photographers tend to forget that photographs actually capture the light reflected from a material body and not the body itself ... The vast majority of photos are taken with relatively short, practically instant shutter speeds of scenes that are mostly frozen due to that very fact and that is why this illusion is formed ...
But when one uses the BULB mode of one's DSLR, one actually "feels" how a camera works and how it is designed to function ... Extra long shutter speeds "turn" large vehicles into plain light-trails and an airplane's flight at night into a simple continuous movement of a "dot" made of pure light ...
Thessaloniki's waterfront at night ... A photograph that urged me to bring back into my mind all of the previously mentioned ... A photo that reminded me not to be afraid to use my camera's built in Flash in REAR mode even when a camera is taking a photograph under BULB mode ... The use of the flash actually donated to that photograph this beautiful reddish hue ...
The scene that you all see above is completely unprocessed ...
NIKON D90 DSLR with Nikon Nikkor 18 - 55 lens, Manual Mode, f 9, ISO 125, focal length 18 mm, manually adjusted focusing, shutter speed 23,5 s (BULB MODE), Auto white balance, PATTERN metering mode, flash went off in REAR mode, use of tripod ...

This is one from my archives:
A very small plane belonging to TAP Portuguese Airlines which took us from Lisbon to Seville with ten passengers, pilot and co-pilot and no flight attendent. Dinner box on the seat with a set of ear plugs against the tremendous noise in the cabin and everyone got to watch the pilot since they were not separated from the cabin. So much fun!! I still remember it very fondly :)

My city of Sydney by night.
On Tuesday night I drove down to the Balmain East Wharf.
This is the view from the wharf at the end of Darling Street.
Tuesday night, 29th August, 2023.
It reminded me of what I imagine a surreal nightflight into space may be like!!
So here's Boney M with the obscure title-track from their mega successful 1978 disco album; 'Nightflight To Venus', which featured, most notably, the track 'Rasputin'.

Magical bird display by www.facebook.com/whitefalconry on the Isle of White. The birds are flown at night and Baldrick wears a head cam which transmits the bird's eye view to a big screen at the front of the amphitheatre. It is absolutely stunning to see what the bird is seeing as it flies!
The falconers need help to develop an HD or possibly 4K system. It needs to be extremely light, durable (it will get pecked!) and must work well in low light. If you can help - or would like to back the team, please get in touch with them (steven@wightfalconry.com) or me.
Note from Falconer Steve Hain:
"So far the best picture of our FAMOUS Harris hawk Baldrick flying with the UK firsts and possible worlds first, our head cam at night live to the public at Robin Hills Electric Woods, since this picture we have upgraded out camera and back pack to bigger and better, we are looking for a company or backer to work with us to improve this but also to produce a WORLD FIRST never done before in public falconry, this will also include cameras and different Birds and more, if anyone/company out there willing to help or think they might be up for the challenge to produce this WORLDS FIRST please contact us"
as part of the graffiti art "boneyard project" belgian artist ROA painted this derelict douglas C-47 with one of his signature bird skeleton images.

Flying casually over the city.
Another b/w photograph. This one has a story to it, it's one of a series of my "empty spots" photographs. Backgrounds taken with a spaceship in mind whenever I come across a nice place, with a suitable spaceship added later.
I did not post this originally (Oct 2013) because I thought it was perhaps not as original as I'd hoped for. A little too close to some of Cedric Delsaux's work. I can't help it though, I come up with them spontaneously.
I also wrote a post about this in the Stuck in Plastic blog. I like to write there from time to time.
