A pedestrian takes a sunset stroll across a footbridge that spans the Union Pacific Railroad tracks in Wheaton, Illinois. The bridge, which once carried electric trains of the Chicago, Aurora and Elgin Railway, is now part of the Illinois Prairie Path trail system.

Wild and remote, St Nicholas' Church, Bransdale lies at the head of a beautiful moorland dale.
Records show a church on the existing site since 1282, probably connected with The Priory of Keldholme. The present church was built in 1886 by the Earl of Feversham, and was later extended in 1934. St Nicholas' boasts a barrelled roof and several graves dating to the 18th century.
Today the Church is regularly visited a great many people, drawn by its solitude and quiet beauty.

Built of fragments of roman masonry, the church is probably 11th Century. The village of Littleborough, Nottinghamshire was once a relatively large Roman town on the west bank of the River Trent, built next to a long vanished bridge on the road from Lincoln to York. This was taken on an iphone, before I bought a DSLR.

This is the High Street we walked down to the harbour. We passed a small church called St Nicholas' Chapel, which was built around 1869.

The parish church of St Nicholas at Condicote, Gloucestershire, has stood on this site in the Cotswolds for more than 800 years and is a Grade II listed building.. The building features a mixture of architectural styles, parts of the building dating back to Norman times, and perhaps even older. Rumour has it that St Nicholas stands on the site of a Roman building, but this has never been proven.

Saint Nicholas (Greek: Άγιος Νικόλαος , Agios ["saint"] Nikolaos ["victory of the people"]) (270 - 7 December 346) is the common name for Nicholas of Myra, a saint and Bishop of Myra (Demre, in Lycia, part of modern-day Turkey). Because of the many miracles attributed to his intercession, he is also known as Nicholas the Wonderworker. He had a reputation for secret gift-giving, such as putting coins in the shoes of those who left them out for him, and thus became the model for Santa Claus, whose English name comes from the Dutch Sinterklaas. His reputation evolved among the faithful, as is common for early Christian saints. In 1087, his relics were furtively translated to Bari, in southeastern Italy; for this reason, he is also known as, Nicholas of Bari.

Saint Nicholas's Cathedral, or simply the Cathedral (Stolnica), in Ljubljana (Slovenia). The earliest mention of a church in the site dates back to 1262. The present-day church was built in the Baroque style between 1701 and 1706, replacing an older gothic church which was burnt down in 1469, presumably by the Turks.
The light inside when I entered was beautiful. Just a stroke of luck, really. The image is a composite of 5 shots.
The 16th century St. Nicholas Fortress stands at the mouth of St. Anthony Channel, a narrow sea inlet leading to Sibenik, Croatia. It formed part of a network of Venetian fortresses intended to defend again the Ottoman Empire.
I later returned to the St Nicholas road bridge to await the return of the Dalston – Stanlow tanks (which I think ran as 6F26) and again I have melded two adjacent images from an old strip of negative.
I can’t definitively identify the passenger train or its motive power but I believe the “Peak” was 45144. I thought the train might’ve been a Carlisle –Newcastle - Edinburgh service but as Bob Lumley has pointed out it was more likely to have been a dmu substitute.

"The Church St. Nicholas of Wismar was built from 1381 until 1487 as a church for sailors and fishermen. St. Nicholas is one of the finest testaments to mediaeval brick architecture in northern Germany.
Based upon the design of Marienkirche (Saint Mary's) in Lübeck it is the second highest brick basilica church in the world after St. Mary's of Lübeck. St. Nicholas along with St. Mary's and St. George's, is one of the three great churches that dominate the skyline of the city of Wismar and since 2002 it is on the list of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the old Hanseatic City."

The Church of St. Nicholas (German: St.-Nikolai-Kirche) is a Gothic Revival cathedral that was formerly one of the five Lutheran Hauptkirchen (main churches) in the city of Hamburg, Germany. The original chapel, a wooden building, was completed in 1195. It was replaced by a brick church in the 14th century, which was eventually destroyed by fire in 1842. The church was completely rebuilt by 1874, and was the tallest building in the world from 1874 to 1876. It was designed by the English architect George Gilbert Scott.
The bombing of Hamburg in World War II destroyed the bulk of the church. The removal of the rubble left only its crypt, its site and tall-spired tower, largely hollow save for a large set of bells. These ruins continue to serve as a memorial and an important architectural landmark. When Hamburg residents mention the Nikolaikirche, it is generally to this church that they are referring, and not the new Hauptkirche dedicated to Saint Nicholas in the Harvestehude district. The remains of the old church are the second-tallest structure in Hamburg. In 2005, an elevator was installed to a 75.3-metre-high (247 ft) platform.
