This beautiful vibrantly colored insect is seen in Houston May to October. Appropriately named “neon” as its bright red abdomen seemed to throb like a light tube as I saw it perched on a broken reed in the shallow waters of the pool in the Edith L. Moore Sanctuary.
The Purple Prairie Clover has a thimble-shaped flower head ½ to 2½ inches long at the top of the stem with the flowers blooming from the bottom of the spike up. Tiny 5-petaled purple flowers with orange or yellow-tipped stamens are densely packed around the cone. The calyx is woolly, dull gray to rusty red, and easily visible in the upper spike where flowers have not yet bloomed. Best viewed large.

The Baptistery of Neon (Italian: Battistero Neoniano) is a Roman religious building in Ravenna, northeastern Italy. The most ancient monument remaining in the city, it was partly erected on the site of a Roman bath. It is also called the Orthodox Baptistery to distinguish it from the Arian Baptistery constructed on behest of Ostrogothic King Theodoric some 50 years later.
The ceiling mosaic depicts John the Baptist baptizing Jesus (depicted with beard) standing waist high in the Jordan River. Zeus, as personification of the Jordan, is also present. A procession of the twelve apostles proceeds around the center mosaic in two directions, ending with Saint Peter meeting Saint Paul.

Guess whos been playing with the saturation button ????? I think now I love autumn more than any other season - the warm water, the softness, the beautiful skies. Popped into Centennial Park on my way home this evening and I was watching these cockatoos in the palm trees squawking away - I kept my lens fixed up to wait from them to fly out - jeez, it took forever - my arms were aching holding my trusty 70- 200 f2.8 . Sure, I had a tripod in the car(aka The Dust Gatherer) - but I never use it .
Monday night here in Sydney - so lets kick the week off with a tangy bang my fine flickr friends - don't tell Ms. Silver Efex I did this - she would not be happy ;)
