Hrvati mercenaries in the 30 Years War (1618-1648) wore scarves with a characteristic knot, often tied for them by their ladies. This entranced Louis XIV and the French court, who adopted the style, calling it “cravat”. Somewhere along the line “Hrvatska” just proved too hard for non-Slavic speakers, and devolved into the English word “Croatia”, which isn’t as different from the original as it looks. The country is still rife with necktie stores like this one. The checked pattern is also traditional. Didn’t actually see a Starbucks anywhere.

A cravat is a neckband, the forerunner of the modern tailored necktie and bow tie, originating from a style worn by members of the 17th century military unit known as the Cravats. The modern British "cravat" is known as an "ascot" in the USA.
A boater, also known as a straw boater, basher, skimmer, Panama, cady, canotier is a semi-formal summer hat for men, which was popularised in the late 19th century and early 20th century.

Yes, this one came from a Macro Monday photo that I did a few years ago. the detail in the tie and the colors were perfect! I usually play with hue but I did not on this one.
I had four of these images printed on metallic paper using a standout mount. Print cannot duplicate the backlight of an electronic screen but the colors are still strikingly beautiful.
I was cleaning out the closet the other day, and I came across this old spring time favorite. I bought it back in the late 80s, and I remember pulling it off a mannequin because I liked it so much. It always got compliments; the women loved it!
I have dozens of neckties, and I don't think I have ever thrown one away. :-)

For my daily inspiration in old film work revisited View On Black it's on Ben's stream not mine, but I took it and if i want to use it for my inspiration, I will! It's a fave.
Finding a subject for Something Purple was difficult until I remembered my Masonic necktie that was made from the Freemanson's Universal Tartan. Combining it with a few other items related to the Masonry yielded this still life I've called "Time For Lodge."
For those viewers knowledgeable of the craft, you will see many subtle references to the Symbolism of Freemasory. For those not familiar, very little of what you see will be recognizable as having a hidden meaning.
I would write more, but oops, it is time for lodge....
