#5shotchallenge ••• #flora

I'm officially having fun with this Flora challenge. Even though all of the flora shots that I'm posting are shot with roughly the same combo, rest assured that I have been attacking this challenge from all angles and with a ton of combos. It just so happens that I prefer my flora symmetrical, and on the monotone side.

This shot::

yup, you guessed it… I shot this with #Salvador84 + #RockBW11, snipped of the edges, zipped it through #Geló a couple times, and then overlaid some #ndapatterns to finish it off.

#MobileArtistry is creative edits, beautiful images, unique perspectives, stellar shots, and happy accidents. IE, stuff you won't find on the pop page.

Through this ongoing project we hope to expose people to art and artists they may not normally get to see, learn about one another's process, and encourage each other to push the limits of creativity.

Tonight's submission is from Mink, aka @minkwilliams, let's hear about his process.

I went on a walk Saturday to take a bunch of photos with a fine iger ( @nicdesjardins ) who I met at our local instameet in the fall. Here's one of the best.

To start I shot this with pro camera in 1:1 format with the level on, I manually exposed it so that the trees on the other side of the lake would be visible.

I cropped it in Squareready Pro with the idea that the horizon with trees would be in my rule of thirds cross hairs and the snow covered yellow line would match the bottom right corner.

Into Snapseed for some brightness and color adjustment. I turned the details up to 40, sharpening to 15 so as not to lose the elements when I filtered it.

Into afterglow where I applied the chestnut or other red/brownish filter. Into Vscocam where I applied fade likely level 2 or 3.

I applied one of the free #ndpatterns available from @nealdieker using Imageblender on screen mode. I took the filtered image into Juxtaposer and layered it under the one with the pattern and erased all the areas that were not concrete.

For the orb in the background I used a free #mexture from @merekdavis : I brought it into afterglow and applied the circle frame to it. I brought the filtered/pattern image into Imageblender with the circle framed mexture image and used multiply mode to hide the white part of the orb. I arranged and shrunk it to line up with the horizon and trees. I saved that and brought it into Juxtaposer and erased along the tree line at a very close zoom so that the orb / sun appeared to be lurking behind the trees. I put in the text using the app Over. Thank you for your attention @minkwilliams

Tonight's submission is from Pablo, aka @ptato, let's hear about his process.

I took a pic of the sunset from the window of the flat I live in in London, as the light and the skyline looked great. I like pics with lots of space and air that can be "filled" with patterns, shapes, etc. Another of my obsessions is symmetry and the interaction of geometrical shapes with pictures, so I tried to follow this approach on this one. I am an absolute amateur on the world of photography so I have to massively rely on intuition and constant trial/error, but that makes the editing more fun and pressure free.

The apps I used for this pic, and in general in all my edits, were: Snapseed (basic cropping, tone adjusting and for the final filtering and scratching of the image. I love playing with the Drama and Retrolux modes), Image Blender (such a quick and easy app to work with, probably the tool I use more), Decim8 (Beamrider and Tribomb are my favorite filters), Flowpaper (for the chimney smoke), Phonto (for main triangle and circle shapes) and Mirrorgram, one of my favorite apps by far! I blended some Mextures, NDpatterns and DSpatterns on this pic too.

Thanks so much to Mobile Artistry for the feature and specially to Tyler (tylerlinahan), it is such an honor!

paoliz_1129: @ptato Fantastic!! Congrats

ptato: @anettegoranzon @nattysxm @caroline2645 @billsmith2315 @paoliz_1129 and everyone else, thanks SO much for your words, so happy that you like my smokey patterned tripey sunset!!!

ptato: @carried_the_world hey buddy! I sometimes just write symbols as the triangle, circles etc. in a white plain background in Phonto and then export it as an image that I blend with the pic with ImageBlender. You can also find great symbols and patterns on IG such as Lorystripes, DSpatterns, OGshapes, ARfilters and many more...

carried_the_world: @ptato thanks so much!! Super helpful

tylerlinahan: @caroline2645 thanks!

susetoo: Congrats @ptato - new follower as of 30 seconds ago - amazing feed! Will be out to explore later today! ❤

ptato: @susetoo thanks so much Susan!!!

momma2maxh: @ptato lovely thanks for sharing.

Tonight's submission is from Christy, aka @urbanmuser, let's hear about her process.

Thanks so much to the crew @mobileartistry for inviting me to be a featured artist again. I love stopping by this space for a daily dose of inspiration--I am honored to be included with all the other IGers here and I learn something new from you all every day.

The title of this photo is "Searching for My Sliver Lining". I didn't originally write down all the editing steps for this image but when I decided to submit it here I went back and I think I've recaptured them all… First I took a self-portrait with Camera Sharp, just me, walking along against a plain white wall. The rest was just the addition of several--OK many--layers using Superimpose. The first layer was a homemade texture that I took using the new Hipstamatic Tintype SnapPak--this layer gives the image it's grungy, distorted frame. Then I added the layer of trees over my dress with a photo I took with the 6x6 app in Central Park--I purposely pulled it down so that the bottom of my dress would ooze out over the edge of the frame, making me seem extra tall! Next, I added one of my cloud photos (taken with native iPhone 4s camera), muted the blue sky color a bit and masked the clouds out of the left side of the image. I recently downloaded the #ndpatterns and wanted to give one a try--those are the vertical stripes you see on the left side of the photo. Then, more layers--the birds and the flower in my hand. And finally, I used the halo filter in Photo fx and the space filter in Iris. And, I think that's it! @computerjones @momma2maxh @lopez689 ---thanks guys!

timothygirard: Wow! I love that you shared your process. But, I also want to warn you that I've heard stories of Instagram removing accounts because URLs were posted in captions and/or comments--they supposedly view it as spam. I can't vouch for the truth of these stories, but I thought I'd pass it along to you.

joecavazos: @timothygirard I appreciate the heads up. I noticed it didn't play nice with links. I might just have to post the images in the regular IG feed.

timothygirard: I just got a little more info about the URLs. Word on the street is that you can put them in your caption without a problem, but putting them in any comment other than the caption is what draws the attention of the spam team. By those rules, what you did here works fine.

joecavazos: @timothygirard thanks for checking into that. I wish those links would work within the IG app.

timothygirard: @joecavazos Yep. I agree completely. There are lots of ways that IG could improve the user experience.

joecavazos: #top12_

rgbtrinity: how'd you get the lines verticle? rotating the whole image?

joecavazos: @rgbtrinity yes. Rotating the image, running it in decim8 then outputting and rotate back.
