Venetian wealth was built on controlling trade routes to the east which was the source of luxury goods such as silk, spices and perfumes. The key to this was naval power and overseas naval bases such as Crete. In fact, they referred to their empire as the Stato da Mar (Nation of the Seas). So the Darsena Arsenale (naval facilities) was the central component of their power and wealth.

In the center and right, are two Ticonderoga class, guided-missile cruisers. One of which is the lead ship USS Ticonderoga CG-47, the other is the USS Yorktown CG-48
