The Mute swan actually gets its name from the fact that its is less vocal than other swan species and is one of the heaviest flying birds. A male swan is known as a Cob while the female is known as a Pen and has a lifespan of around 12 years in the wild and can reach 30 years if in an protected environment. One of three species of wild swans to be found in the UK and is the national bird of Denmark. The Mute Swan is unique in making a vibrant throbbing sound with the wings when in flight. A large group of swans can be called a school, ballet and regatta. No swan has ever broken any ones arm, this is a actually a complete myth.

Not sure of the name of this rose as it was in a beautiful bouquet recently sent to my mother.

Named after John Muir. Muir Woods is a remnant of the ancient coast redwood forests that covered much of the northern California coastal valleys before the 1800s.

Spindle (so named because the wood was used to make spindles) makes a fantastic hedge plant (or small tree in a hedge) because of its unique fall color scheme. In autumn we can enjoy the opening flaps of the fruits, from which orange seeds emerge. The berries are poisonous but the birds love them!!

Hello my amazing Flickr friends !

Today is a blue day at Color my World Daily but I’m skipping it this time since we have a very unique and interesting theme at Looking close on Friday this week. The theme is : "My Name is…" and it must be a black and white picture. Dont worry the blue color will be back next Friday… unless there is another awesome theme incompatible with the blue color…)

So here we go, my name is : Magdalena aka Magda627.

Now you know almost everything there is to know about me :-).

I hope you will like my picture my friends !! See you later and have an amazing day !!

The name of this species could be misleading: it is 'short-billed' only by comparison to the Long-billed Dowitcher, and longer-billed than the average shorebird. Flocks of Short-billed Dowitchers wade in shallow water over coastal mudflats. They often seem rather tame, allowing a close approach when they are busy feeding. ~ Audubon.org

The Latin name for the tiger is ‘Panthera tigris‘. They can live up to 26 years in captivity and in the wild. Tigers prefer to inhabit forests, grasslands and mangrove swamps. There are six distinctive tigers: Bengal, Indochinese, Malayan, Siberian, South China and Sumatran. White tigers are caused by recessive genes and inbreeding. There are as few as 30 Golden Tigers in captivity. There are three extinct breeds: Bali, Caspian and Javan. They can measure up to 11ft, including tail.

They can weigh up to 670lbs. The stripes that a tiger has are as unique as human fingerprints. Tigers are generally solitary creatures, but are seen as highly social able.

Scientific name: Onychoprion anaethetus

Trinomial name: Onychoprion anaethetus melanopterus

Ssp name: O. a. melanopterus

Common name: Bridled tern

Nombre: Charrán monja, Charrán embriado

Lugar de la captura: República Dominicana

As per Wikipedia:

The bridled tern (Onychoprion anaethetus) is a seabird of the family Laridae. It is a bird of the tropical oceans. The scientific name is from Ancient Greek. The genus comes from onux meaning "claw" or "nail", and prion, meaning "saw". The specific anaethetus means "senseless, stupid".

This species breeds in colonies on rocky islands. It nests in a ground scrape or hole and lays one egg. It feeds by plunge-diving for fish in marine environments, but will also pick from the surface like the black tern and the gull-billed tern. It usually dives directly, and not from the "stepped-hover" favoured by the Arctic tern.

Neil Armstrong was the one who baptized this place as Moon Valley, in a visit to the city of La Paz in the year 1969 when he was visiting the Bolivian government after being the first human landing on Moon. He saw the similarity that existed with the landscapes of the moon.

Though named "Common" this babbler is anything but common in our state. This is hard to find babbler whose habitat is grasslands and dry farmlands found scattered across the state. The bird doesn't sound like a babbler even whose calls are often a cacophony of coarse noises. Its behaviour too is unlike other babblers which are social birds and often found in groups of 3-4 or more. But this Common Babbler is often sighted alone or in a pair at best.

We sighted a pair of them on the edge of a hill on a dangerously steep slope and think there could be 2 of them in the area based on calls heard.

Thank you so much in advance for your views, feedback and faves.

The name Tollerort doesn't mean it's a particularly great place. Rather, the Altona borough was once Danish and there was a Danish customs building there (Danish. Toll means customs) so it's literally a customs area. It is also nice to see on the Große Freiheit on the Reeperbahn. There is still a Danish border stone by the church.

"Named for naturalist Alexander Wilson, who first described it, Wilson's Warbler is a colorful, widespread, relatively well known warbler of riparian, meadow, and humid forest thickets. Its combined breeding, migration, and wintering ranges cover nearly the entire North American continent. It has become something of a flagship species for the conservation of neotropical migrants and is considered a priority in several conservation plans because of widespread population declines and threats to its habitat."

The skylark is a small brown bird, somewhat larger than a sparrow but smaller than a starling. It is streaky brown with a small crest, which can be raised when the bird is excited or alarmed, and a white-sided tail. The wings also have a white rear edge, visible in flight. It is renowned for its display flight, vertically up in the air. Its recent and dramatic population declines make it a Red List species. Info: RSPB.

Scientific name: Buteo buteo.

Feeding: Buzzards are big birds, more than capable of taking sizeable birds and animals but, more often than not, they will target smaller prey. Rabbits are an important food source, and the birds suffered during the height of myxomatosis, but they will also take smaller mammals. Compared to all other raptors, Buzzard’s digestive systems are able to deal with a poor-quality diet and, in winter when other prey is hard to find, they are able to feed mostly on earthworms, beetles and other small invertebrates. These will be hunted on foot, and you can find Buzzards regularly sitting on the ground. In favoured fields, large numbers can gather and, although somewhat tolerant of each other, disagreements will break out if individuals get too close to others. In certain areas, usually in the uplands, Buzzards may hover when searching for food. Info: Hawk and Owl Trust.

The buzzard is usually spotted soaring through the sky on its broad wings, which can span up to 60 inches. It has a stocky frame with a body length of around 20 inches. The buzzard’s plumage is highly variable, with some individuals being dark brown, while others are almost entirely white. Generally, though, they are brown with a pale underside, and juveniles will be lighter. Info: Birdfact.com

That's the name of the band, really. There are from fur trapping capital of the world; Boston, Mass😄. The band came on short tour and spent few days in Toronto. I did see them twice on this day, as they played for swing dancers first and later joined me to see 'Frankie Foo' few doors down the street, where they all danced themselves. Last time they came here, I was one of the few people to see them, as their performance coincided with 'Raptors' game 5 in the basketball finals. Annie Linders, a versatile musician who sings and play trumpet is the leader, but 'borrowed' Taylor Maslin a local clarinet player.

Come in my room tonight

Undress in the dying light

Where I have been waiting for you These days it’s all I ever do

When you call my name

It’s gonna be my ticket

To the miracle land

When you call my name Stamping your initials

Across the back of my hand

This winter has been very long

I’ve hardly ever seen anyone

But spring has come and everything’s new

Now I have been sleeping with you

When you call my name

It’s gonna be my ticket

To the miracle land

When you call my name Stamping your initials

Across the back of my hand

When I lie awake

Dreams of dread and wonder Dance before my eyes

Was this really meant for me?

Oh, my God, what a nice surprise!

When will I see you again?

There’s a line in the palm of my hand

That’s running deep and red as love

You take me with you when you fall

When you call my name

It’s gonna be my ticket

To the miracle land

When you call my name

Stamping your initials

Across the back of my hand

Just for once in my life

I wanna know that what I got is good enough

Guess we all will have our time

Must be a moment when it all adds up

So, when will I see you again? Baby, it’s not over, it’s not over
