The night lights at the Walleye Pike boat launch show a frosty dock at first light on the Holloway Reservoir.
Dawn's light over Lake Superior made for a surreal silhouette look, as seen from Isle Royale National Park.
This was an interesting shot, moreso on download. I heard two Sandhill Cranes flying my way and hoped to get them in silhouette here at dawn on Kent Lake in the Kensington Metropark. I did get one in the clear and then reviewed the rest of the shot, including the ducks and the kindred soul with a tripod across on that peninsula. This one has grown on me, so I decided to post it.
Here is the depression-era suspension walking bridge in Richfield County Park, built in 1938. A WPA project in the county made this possible. It is standing the test of time, as many of the WPA-CCC builds do all across the USA.

Description :
A sun pillar settles into the far horizon over Lake Michigan on this very cold night, as seen from the Frankfort harbor.
I tease my hunter friends that I shoot them, but they don't die. How about this beauty that I captured on a quick break from lunch at our For-Mar Nature Preserve and Arboretum?
Last light put on quite the show on Lake Superior tonight. Here it is, finally sinking slowly below the horizon. It just didn't want to give up on such a great day. Goodnight, Superior!
This is a photo from 10 years ago when I was using one of my first digital cameras. The first time I saw a Wood Stork, a once endangered, long-legged wader, I stopped the car. What is that? This is a photo from those days, I suspect we all had, where our hit rate for clear photos was far less than it is now. This photo also shows why it's called the Wood Stork, as seen here in the Circle B' Bar Reserve in Lakeland, FL., March, 2011. This is the first photo I posted to the former Nat Geo YourShot group.
The sun settles down on the horizon of Lake Michigan on this evening, as seen from the entrance to Frankfort Harbor.
Sunrise fog envelops Lion's Head harbor on the shores of Georgian Bay, Ontario, Canada. This poor little lighthouse reminded me of the little engine that could, trying to be a beacon in such heavy fog.
Here is Wagner Falls in Munising, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, taken with a longer exposure just a few days ago.
Here is the male of a local nesting pair of bald eagles. The female had finished eating on the food he returned and then settled down into the nest to the right. He continued to eat in the eat-and-check pattern common to so many species. I got him here on a check with the sun hitting him like a spotlight. This is as good as he will look in this nesting season. Once the hatch occurs, he gets very busy and actually will look gaunt by May.
Here is a vintage view of the Mingus Mill in the Oconaluftee mountain community in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We lucked out in getting there as the sun hit it on this day.
A winter view shows a lone traveler across this snow-covered, frozen pond. This was taken in the Timber Wolf ponds area of the Genesee Recreation Area, Genesee County Parks, Michigan.
There is something very unique in a winter dawn, a stillness unlike any other time of the year. There was that type of stillness on this early morning in Benzie County, Michigan.
We came upon this corner of a cove as Miners' Beach at the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore goes east. I liked this little waterfall tumbling down the rocks. Later, I spoke to a park ranger and she congratulated me on finding Elliott Falls on the "waterfalls checklist". Maybe we lucked out because we weren't looking for it, kinda like finding a bear at Yellowstone. You find them when you aren't looking for them.
The upper Tahquamenon Falls showed its wall of color on this sunny, but cold day in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, May, 2021.
The barberry bushes in my yard look their best in Spring and Fall. I took this one a few days ago, just after a cold Spring rain.

I have expanded the "I miss....." series to include attending baseball games. This was taken from the centerfield seating area at a Great Lakes Loons game before the pandemic. Sunset showed as well as the baseball on this evening. Clayton Kershaw once pitched here, on his way to the Dodgers.
Here is the female of a nesting pair of eagles, waiting her turn to work on whatever food the male had just brought back. It wasn't long before she settled back down on the eggs.
Hoping to get a sun pillar in 12 degrees F temps, I ventured out for sunrise. There was no sun pillar, but it didn't disappoint.
I think I'll let this one speak for itself. I will say that this was taken at the For-Mar Nature Preserve and Arboretum, a part of the Genesee County Parks, in Michigan.
I thought I'd end the year with this photo from earlier in our Covid year. I took this as sunset approached from behind me in the Shiawassee NWR. I never posted it on Flickr, thinking it as perhaps not worthy. To my surprise and delight, the editors of Outdoor Photographer liked it enough to give it a Photo of the Day in September. I can't even recall what I titled it, frankly. Anyway, my best to all of you for a Happy New Year and bidding good riddance to 2020!
