My son teaches Joy to mush! Joy, part Husky, has what's called a parti-eye, her left eye is partially blue. It gives her a "crazy", if you will, look!

When everyone is getting ready to celebrate the holidays, dog mushers in Alaska are preparing for the up and coming racing season. An Iditarod qualifying race will pass right by my cabin in January, and I hope to catch a few of the musher's as they and their teams pass by. Until then I get to see a local musher go by everyday, as he trains his team for the busy season ahead.

Taken near Ladner, British Columbia, Canada.

A dull foggy morning made this little chatterer barely discernible in the wild rose bushes at the edge of the salt marshes. If it had not been for the racket its relatives were making, (there was a family group of five wrens) I would have passed over this bird altogether.

:::: I think you will find them.....INTERESTING!

You know how you can see something in the clouds and someone else sees something totally different? Well, I saw a story unfolding between these two large mushrooms. When I told my husband what I saw, he asked if he could have some of what I was smoking. Part of my story involved a lady wearing a large jeweled hat and a long flowing skirt. Enough said.

A dogsledder's perspective! Today my friend took me out and what a treat! These dogs are amazing and a lot of work to care for. Such a great way to travel under the furs.

Modern day electric sled dog teams in my neighbourhood... I'm taking a little break from Flickr, firstly to spend a week in Prague and then to organise and get through my Dad's funeral when we return. That should just about see off winter so I'll see you all for the first week of spring :)

Looking back at the last member of our expedition team as the sky reveals just a small strip of blue in the otherweise all white environment. This happened right after a heavy snow storm.

Hallo ♡, this is a small pause, since this beauty that I made in collaboration with a friend "Just Tony", who made the mushroom umbrella which will be available from today at the Tokyo Zero

Odd that with my camera, I cannot hide or blend into the background like usual. Put the camera in my hand and people see me. THEY SEE ME!!!!

We went dog sledding when we were in Quebec! It was so much fun!

Adventures Nord-Bec Stoneham is located right in the beautiful Laurentian Mountains, about an hour north of Quebec City. What a great company. Their love, devotion and dedication to the safety and wellbeing of their dogs is foremost and most obvious. Never have I seen happier dogs. If only we could get that kind of joy at work every day!

Yukon Quest is a sled dog race that takes places every February. Mushers compete for the grand prize of $200 000. Usually this prize money is also suplemented by some amount of real gold (gold coins, or brick of gold etc.)

The race is 1000 miles long and has many international attendees.. It starts in Whitehorse, Yukon and finishes in Fairbanks, Alaska or vice versa. The direction of the race alternates each year. Mushers take 10 to 14 days to complete the race. High percentage of racers do not finish. Air rescues are not uncommon because of the remoteness of the area and extreme weather.

Other photos of dogs and mushers, both from me and from other photographers, can be seen at the The Yukon Quest pool.
