Decide upon an emotion you wish to convey, use that as your guide to build your story.

— Ian Teh

Ian adds…

“One of photography’s greatest strengths is its ability to emote through its ability to suggest. How would you frame your image based on the emotion you have decided upon? What colours will you use (or not)? What details will you include (or not)? What elements will be a constant recurrence in your story? These are just some of the thoughts that you could ponder upon. This reductive process helps define a framework that will guide you into capturing that distinct emotional note you are looking for in your story.”

in camera multiple exposures

This was part of an experiment in homebrew HDR (high dynamic range) photography, mainly to see whether I could get good results from a cheap camera like our Polaroid digital. What you see here is the product of 5 exposures ranging from –2.0 to +2.0EV, taken one at a time, then combined using FDRTools Basic for Mac OS X. Comparing with a single exposure of the same scene, the highlights are still a little blown out, but other details are captured more naturally--softer shadows, some colors a little more saturated. Promising results for a $99 camera and a little free-of-charge software.

Interestingly, I got an even better result by using only 3 of the 5 exposures! See that image.

More local wandering with legs and mind.

Shot, edited and shared on iPhone. Apps used- Juxtaposer, ToonPaint, DXP, ScratchCam, Photonics and iDarkroom. and

Skyscapes have interesting light qualities, so I hoped that using one would give my nature/ street photos a dramatic quality.

Multiple exposures of the same scene, combined with the Gimp.

I bet you didn't know Jackson has an identical twin? Or that I have a camera that does Multiple Exposures inside of the camera itself? You take the guess on which is real!
