Mud wrestlers during a bout at the Akhara Siyaram club on the banks of the Hoogly River in Kolkata. There are about fifty club members who treat the facility rather like a gym where they meet at around 5am to practice their training routines under the guidance of the guru, Jawala Tewari.

[10/365] Quest for mud!
For years I have longed for a picture with MX bikes and flying mud - my journey has come to an end.
My hard disk is full of countless shots of black dots to an empty background or flying mud with no context or meaning.
This picture is the shit!!!
Shot on “Stångebroslaget” which is an Enduro competition with over 2000 participants. I usually participate myself, but this year only my brother drove. My brother had his share of the mud and I had mine, but in a completely different way. Yes, I got dirty! ;)

One of three rhinos in a group that was relaxing in the midday hotness. Photographed in Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.
Happy Monday everyone, been taking a break from snapping photos and feeling the need to get some more! In the meantime I've been looking at earlier ones and found this snap from early April at the Coogoorah Reserve at Anglesea.

The towering mud-brick walls of Dimai (Dimeh es-Seba) date back as early as the 3rd century BC foundation of ancient Soknopaiou Nesos, sited on a plateau north of Lake Qarun. The massive walls of the central temenos, dedicated to the crocodile-headed goddess Soknopaios (another name for Sobek in the Hellenistic Faiyum), are constructed in segments with curved courses for stabilizing the unfired bricks.

"Mud-puddling is the phenomenon mostly seen in butterflies and involves their aggregation on substrates like wet soil, dung and carrion to obtain nutrients such as salts and amino acids. This behaviour has also been seen in some other insects, notably the leafhoppers.
Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths) are diverse in their strategies to gather liquid nutrients. Typically, mud-puddling behavior takes place on wet soil. But even sweat on human skin may be attractive to butterflies. The most unusual sources include blood and tears
This behaviour is restricted to males in many species, and in some like Battus philenor the presence of an assembly of butterflies on the ground acts as a stimulus to join the presumptive mud-puddling flock"
My brother completed his first tough mudder event yesterday, I couldn't be more proud of him, he finished in 2 and a half hours, well done Scott ;)

After raining for 10 days straight, it's finally let up a bit. I was desperate to go for a walkabout even though the sky is still heavy and grey. Mostly what I found was mud.
This particular waterfall is in Sky Valley, Georgia, a remote little resort in north Georgia that is only accessible by one road that requires the visitor to first drive into North Carolina and then back into Georgia. The "hike" from the car to the base of the falls? About 10 yards. My kinda waterfall!
