The towering mud-brick walls of Dimai (Dimeh es-Seba) date back as early as the 3rd century BC foundation of ancient Soknopaiou Nesos, sited on a plateau north of Lake Qarun. The massive walls of the central temenos, dedicated to the crocodile-headed goddess Soknopaios (another name for Sobek in the Hellenistic Faiyum), are constructed in segments with curved courses for stabilizing the unfired bricks.

"Mud-puddling is the phenomenon mostly seen in butterflies and involves their aggregation on substrates like wet soil, dung and carrion to obtain nutrients such as salts and amino acids. This behaviour has also been seen in some other insects, notably the leafhoppers.

Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths) are diverse in their strategies to gather liquid nutrients. Typically, mud-puddling behavior takes place on wet soil. But even sweat on human skin may be attractive to butterflies. The most unusual sources include blood and tears

This behaviour is restricted to males in many species, and in some like Battus philenor the presence of an assembly of butterflies on the ground acts as a stimulus to join the presumptive mud-puddling flock"

128/365 - We have a water table/sand table combo for the kids...word of advice: don't EVER buy one of these...as you can see from this picture, it's a MUDDY MESS! We just let the boys go to town on it though since it was really the first time we enjoyed our backyard this year...plus it was Mother's Day so part of our tradition is that I don't have to lift a finger all day (which means my husband had to bathe them after, ha ha).

There was a little rain over the weekend forming some puddles and lots and lots of mud and with it the House Martins were frantically collecting it for their respective nests :) Cheers everyone

Went up this evening to an open space off the Peak to Peak Highway above Boulder, Colorado.

After raining for 10 days straight, it's finally let up a bit. I was desperate to go for a walkabout even though the sky is still heavy and grey. Mostly what I found was mud.

No kidding. The swamps at Coyote HIlls have all turned into mud cracks. Taken with Samyang 14mm F2.8 Lens at F11.

How did I get like this?

12.5 miles of physical hell, 24 muscle and mind sapping obstacles and this is what the finish line looks like, 25 meters of deep slippy mud, hay bales and multiple electric shocks between you and the official tough mudder headband and t shirt and free pint, i wont laugh, im doing it next year.

One of ten 'Tonkas' there that year, Boscombe was a great 'intermediate' venue with loads of space and unlike Greenham before it, generally a North viewing aspect, especially for the flying display, which is always a bonus for photography
