We went out for an afternoon visit to the Rhododendron Gardens. The air was crisp, the sky was blue and there was a bit of autumn colour about.

When I think of a gin mill,I think of the old bar downtown or a place Seagram's owns. This is actually a cotton gin mill on the Boone Plantation Site in Charleston,SC. It has been closed and somewhat abandoned for many years. It has been a source of "ghost" sightings for years, but I can't imagine why....
Actually this structure served a variety of uses after the mill machinery was removed. It was actually used as a guest house till being heavily damaged by Hurricane Hugo in 1989.The idea is to renovate it,but it will be a tall task.
More about Boone Plantation, which has been used as a site for many popular movies over the years....
When hiking on this particular trail, I often pass this small round tree cavity. It's about 15 feet off the ground. Sometimes I will stand below the tree and say, "Anyone home, today?" and am usually met with silence and inactivity. However, a few days ago, I was delighted to see this young Eastern Gray Squirrel poke its head out and inquire as to what I was doing beneath its home.

Have a great Monochrome Monday all!
We moved to Washougal, Washington in 2005. Today, I finally hiked down the hill to Mt. Pleasant. This is the end of a stretch of two main tracks that begins near the 32nd Street grade crossing in Washougal and continues for approximately four miles.
When ATCS Monitor indicated that the next train through town would be an eastbound, I decided to go into Mt. Pleasant for a photo. As luck worked out, the eastman was the Everett garbage loads (H-EVEROO), with a pair of SD75Ms and an ex-ATSF GP60.
Since this morning's sun is the last in the forecast for at least the next ten days, I thought I should get out for a while. Here's the result of my effort down at the Mt. Pleasant control point - a trio of twentieth century power eastbound.
In Jan 2020, Vancouver had only 1 day without precipitation. Average January rainfall is 158mm. This January had 256.6 mm. No wonder some animals hibernate.

I doubt that CB&Q power was found in the PNW before BN came to be but after the merger the Q GP30/35 fleet migrated out west and these units were a common sight. Most of them hung around out there even though they swapped there classic CB&Q paint for Cascade green. This weeks SNS is by Greg Stadter and features 2536 leading a ex SP&S RS3 and a former Q GP30 at Mt. Pleasant in April 1972.
