WA-R, a sparsely seen or heard local, switches the feed mill at Detroit. After finishing up our day’s adventure in Bangor we heard a train claim they are clear of MP100 (Burnham, Maine), So we went to detroit to cut it off. By some miracle, it was WA-R. Feed mill operators were nice enough to let us on property for this hardly shot operation.

Train: ST WA-R with MEC 511 (GP40-2L), BM 326 (GP40-2)

WAMA comes down the hill at MP100 as they pass Burnham Junction on a cloudy Sunday afternoon. The lashup consisted of 5 GP40's with the treat of a highhood leading.

About a mile west of the previous picture, MAWA is rolling past MP100 at Burnham Junction. The track on the right of the train is the interchange track with the Belfast & Moosehead Lake; currently that gets used about twice a year. Up until almost fifteen years ago now, there used to be several large grain silos that dominated the backdrop here, but regrettably, those got torn down as more of central Maine's business dried up. High hood GP40s 373 and 380 are bracketing GP40-2LW 501 with sixty cars today, most of it off Irving, but also some cars from their tie grinder at Keag, and some interchange from the CMQ.

Most people who have shot Pan Am east of Waterville are familiar with MP100, as the big granite milepost is located right by the road at Burnham Junction. But a half mile to the west and with a little bit of elevation (seventy-eight feet, to be exact) another view is opened up. MAWA with a trio of Pan Am's ex-Canadian National GP40-2LWs for power is plodding along through central Maine with about sixty cars in tow, crossing over Johnson Brook near the fringes of Burnham, ME.

Yesterday, I rearranged some things to free up a Friday afternoon to head out the Connecticut River Valley. Knowing that I hate humidity, I needed a good reason to do so, and I therefore had to hit my objectives to make it worth my time. After catching Amtrak with the drone and EDSP from the ground, Target #3 was the northbound leg of New England Central's 611 crossing the high bridge at Millers Falls. I did this many years ago with Amtrak, but I've wanted a freight here in good light for a long time.

I knew they were on the move from Palmer, but there were a lot of 10mph heat restrictions, and rumor on Facebook was that they would tie it down before Millers Falls. I had actually given up and started driving back to East Deerfield when I heard them call clear of MP95. Since Millers Falls is just shy of MP100, this necessitated the classic "Turn & Burn" maneuver as soon as I got a break in traffic on Route 2.

Turns out, the "Burn" wasn't really needed, as I had plenty of time to get back, which I should have used to launch the drone. Oh well...this shot is not in danger of going away, so there's always next summer.

Clean UP on #335 at mp100, south of Wilmore, Ky on June 27th. Per my camera the nose was only in sun for one second.

Toledo to Cumberland freight Q394 passes under the signal bridge at "a hundred and a half" just north of Bradner, Ohio on the Pemberville Sub.

The California Northern's 1300 Woodland Switcher crew is on board a late running Cortena Turn at MP100 south of Dunnigan, California this evening. Engineer Welch and Conductor York crest a grade with a half mile of West Valley outbounds making a run for the UP at Davis. As I type they are probably doubling up their Welcos at Woodland. As far as the headlight glare goes.....fuck it. It was 13 minutes past peak and getting dark very quickly.

This is a pre-release model of Apple’s OMP (Original MessagePad) including the extremely rare ‘Batmobile’ screen cover. The front of the case is marked ‘Newton’ in the location where the shipping models of the OMP and the MP100 (MessagePad 100) were marked ‘MessagePad’. This particular unit is currently nonfunctional. In fact, I’m not convinced that it ever worked, as it is labeled “Technical Sample Only” on the back.

This Newton is marked with the number ‘46’ in three places … in the top right corner on the back of the case (view here), inside the battery compartment, as well as on the back of the battery compartment lid (view here). The ‘Batmobile’ screen cover is marked with the number ‘39’.

According to the previous owner, this unit was used in a 1993 television game show called ‘Quest’. A contestant was given a video camera and a prototype Newton, competing in a high-tech scavenger hunt around San Francisco. The Newton was used to feed the contestant clues. ‘Quest’ is mentioned in the book Defying Gravity by Markos Kounalakis and Doug Menuez.

Kicking up snow from the recently upped track speeds, L071 (former Pan Am WANM) cruises East past the interchange with the Belfast & Moosehead Lake Railway in Burnham, ME (MP100). Looking much more Pan Am than CSX, today's train had quite the assortment of power; C40-8's 7552-7595 and GP40s 315-310.
