Mar's troops spent the night at Naggyfauld on Kinbuck Muir, observed by Argyll's lookouts on Sheriffmuir. When they began to moveup the hill Argyll acted to bar their way by marching his men from Dykedale Farm, where they had spent the night, in three columns up the track towards Sheriffmuir.
