this is the start of a Mountain Bluebird series. Hanging around a mud puddle for four mornings doesn't sound like fun, but it was and the photo opportunities were infinite.

The tiny and picturesque island, Ghost Island, is located in/on magnificent Crater Lake, Oregon

That glow gets me every time.... :)

The continental drift between the North American and Eurasian Plates can be clearly seen in the cracks or faults which traverse the region, the largest one, Almannagjá, being a veritable canyon.

From the banks of a loch looking towards the mountain ranges with Castle Stalker in the distance. Another grey rainy day in Scotland that day. Not the best overall focus and should have shot this as f8 really but I loved the scene so thought I would share..

number four in the Mountain Bluebird series. Tomorrow a different species.

Sub-alpine forest at an altitude of around 1750 m, which is dominated by Kometsuga hemlock, Shirabiso or Ooshirabiso fir and Dakekanba (Erman's birch, Betula ermanii). The forest floor is filled with the shade tolerant saplings of these trees.

Trees with vertical fissures on the trunk like those just in front are Kometsuga, while those with horizontal patters are Shirabiso or Ooshirabiso.

日本四国地方徳島県祖谷

Sobetsu, Usu District, Hokkaido, Japan

It is a nationally designated Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings.

The village is formed on a steep slope, and the difference between the highest and lowest points is approximately 390 meters, making it the steepest among the designated areas.

Houses built from the mid-Edo period to the early Showa period (late 17th century to early 20th century), stone walls made by piling up stones one by one, and remain fields, providing not only nostalgic scenery but also historical high value in terms of the ingenuity used to form the village on the slope.

The entire village can be seen from the “Ochiai Settlement Viewing Point” on the opposite side.Buckwheat flowers blooming all over the fields are also a highlight.

Yamadera 山寺

Yamagata Prefecture, Japan

The remains of Yamadera’s founder, the monk Ennin (794–864), are said to rest in a coffin—once encrusted with gold—beneath the Nokyodo, a small, red sutra hall perched on a cliff in the upper reaches of Yamadera. At Yamadera, monks copy sutras as part of their training. The copying process takes up to four years. Once they finish, they ritualistically place the sutras in the Nokyodo as an offering to Ennin. The original structure was repaired in 1987. It is an important Prefectural Property, and one of Yamadera’s most iconic sights.

日本四国地方香川県丸亀市

Marugame (丸亀) is a port city in western Kagawa Prefecture on Shikoku, located just west of the Seto Ohashi Bridge which connects Shikoku to Japan's main island of Honshu.

The second largest city in the prefecture, Marugame includes many of the Shiwaku Islands, a historically important island group that lies just off the coast of the city. The Shiwaku Islands include Honjima Island, the former governing center of the island group. Several of the islands serve as festival venues for the Setouchi Triennale.

For centuries, Marugame's location along the Seto Inland Sea has made it an important player in maritime trade and transportation through the region. Marugame Castle was built high up on a hill overlooking the city as a means to help control the area. The castle is one of only twelve so-called "original castles" in Japan, i.e. castles whose keeps have survived the post-feudal period (since 1868) intact.

It had been rather dreary and overcast all day, so I went for a drive, but then the fog/cloud started to lift and I went to photograph Castle Mountain. By the time I arrived at this location the fog was mainly gone and this was the scene. No tourists this day.
