Yet another batch of candid snaps captured during Day 3 of Surva Fest 2025. None of them are posed or set up, all the impressions were captured during the procession, dance and performance of the groups on the event square.
Surva is listed among the Oral and Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the UNESCO. "It is a ritual symbolizing the cleansing power of the new beginning with wishes for health and a bountiful harvest. Bulgarian masquerade rituals go back thousands of years to the earliest pagan times. Masquerade games were practiced as the new year took over from the old and during nature’s spring awakening. The message they conveyed was of banishing the powers of evil with wishes for health and fertility during what are known as the “dirty days” of the year." (Source: Ilka Dimitrova, www.bnr.bg)
I´ve captured an immense amount of candids, about 10k, hence it is very hard to select the best snaps.
Аppreciate all the likes and comments, most probably only one big batch left to complete the share of my Surva impressions.

A candid balcony muse of mine, Emma (according her necklace, visible on some of the snaps), captured from afars during the last day of the Festa de Santa Tecla 2024 in Tarragona, Catalonia.
Used the fact of her perfect unaware poses to create a photoshoot worthy collection of her in edit, using the Mirror tool to place the section of the building wall beside her balcony onto the people who were around her at all time. Then I changed the hue of the wall (orange in real world) to create more complementing colors, or simply tinted the snap.

A crowd candid catch snapped from afar, with my captivating candid casteller muse Helena Osorio (13) in focus.
The ending of her nickname (Helenita) visible on her mouthgard at a closeup snap from the day before was a first clue that lead me to her full name, as I found media reports she was featured in from 2019.
Aesthetic, emotive, storytelling impressions of the skilled tower builders snapped during the intense, 12 day long Fiesta de Santa Tecla held annually in Tarragona, Catalonia.
A castell is a human tower built traditionally at festivals in Catalonia. At these festivals, several colles castelleres (teams that build towers) attempt to build and then dismantle a tower's structure. On 16 November 2010, castells were declared by UNESCO to be amongst the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
In addition, on the last day four casteller teams were competing in pilars caminant, that is walking towers. From the stairs of the Cathedral to the Town Hall the teams were walking in a 3 person tower formations (held by a base) as fast as possible and staying steady (not collapsing) at the same time. This year only two teams fully completed the task.
Here is a live footage of the event aired on the local TV TAC 12 to get the full grasp of it >>> www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wOweTax23g - You can spot me in action from 35:35 to 36:00 in the right part of the screen, in khaki, beard, fuzzy greyish hair :)
It was one of the most demanding assignments I had as a photographer, but it was worth the time and money invested.
Thank you to all who caught my attention, it was an immense amount of skills, radiance, emotions and energy concentrated.
Gràcies, sou tots fantàstics! Salut i força al canut!
Do hope there will be opportunities in the future to document the event, or the meet some of the teams. do some shoots with the castellers!
There will be sporadic uploads out of the thousands of snaps from the set for sure, but no more huge batches.
Appreciate all the Likes and Comments!

Not posed, not set up, a crowd shot snapped from afar, people around my captivating candid casteller muse Helena Osorio (13) removed in edit, using the fact she was in front of this roller shutter.
