I did not plan the Halo Effect appearing in the photo. It only became obvious once the photos were downloaded from my camera. At once haunting and sombre. This is one of the best photos of the Mock Coffins I was able to snap.
Photo note: The juvenile male Elephant Seals are driven by their DNA to start training for the right to mate with females. Only about 15% of the adult males will ever have an opportunity to mate, but their training begins in the first year of life. Although it appears violent, it is more like two Sumo wrestlers pounding their bodies against each in an attempt to force the other one out of the ring. When fully grown the 4,000 to 5,000lbs, males can enter into bloody matches, which end with the loser retreating into the ocean or farther down the beach.
Location: Most people have never seen an Elephant Seal in the wild. This series will introduce you to the species at the Piedras Blancas Elephant Seal Rookery. The Piedras Blancas Rookery, on Highway 1 seven miles north of San Simeon on the California Central Coast, is home to about 17,000 animals.)
Mockingbird, that is. They don't sit still for long. This was the first of three shots I banged off in quick succession, and it turned out to be the best. By the time it had jumped to a spot with a darker background, it was facing the wrong way, and moving it's head so fast it was just a blur. A bit longer zoom, such as the 25-100mm on the Samurai X4.0 would have been nice to have, but one must make do. As it is, this is a 5x5 crop from the original.

Foxwall participated in the "Mock MVA" at Fox Chapel High School to discourage drinking and driving. Local EMS and Fire services staged an accident and emergency response at the high school.

Ingredients for Mock 'Tuna' Salad Sandwich.
15 ounces canned chickpeas, drained and rinsed, fork-crushed.
2 whole celery stalks, grated.
2 tbsp dill pickle, diced
1 spring onion (or ramp), diced
2 tsp nutritional yeast
1 tbsp low sodium soy sauce
2 tbsp vegan 'mayonnaise'
1 tsp kelp powder
½ tsp dry mustard powder
½ tsp onion flakes
fresh lemon juice, to taste

A (very) rough mock up, the forks are 20mm too short, the front wheel has no tyre and there's no headset cup, hence the wooden box to bring the front end up. It's still not quite where it will be but it gives a good impression of what I'm aiming for.

Last week, everywhere I looked, the Mocking Birds were stuffing themselves with caterpillars. Every photo I took of one of the birds has a caterpillar too.
But this one caught my eye because it had managed to catch three at once. It worked and worked stacking them to pick them all up. Here you see that it was successful.
In the middle of the week, the garden treated the ground so no more caterpillars.
