ENGLISH

Viola riviniana, the common dog-violet, is a species of flowering plant in the family Violaceae, native to Eurasia and Africa. It is also called wood violet[1] and dog violet. It inhabits woodland edges, grassland and shady hedge banks. It is found in all soils except those which are acid or very wet.

Growing to 10 cm (3.9 in) tall and 50 cm (20 in) broad, this prostrate perennial has dark green, heart-shaped leaves and produces multiple violet coloured flowers in May and June.

Viola riviniana was voted the county flower of Lincolnshire in 2002, following a poll by the wild plant conservation charity Plantlife.

Taken from Savannah Skies Observatory with a Canon 5D Mark II camera and 17-mm Tip-Tilt lens.

One of the few stapelias that does not smell ...

The flower is about 20 mm tip-to-tip ...

Mighty snowflakes from tiny seed crystals grow.

In 58 minutes, this crystal grew from 0.05 to 3.0 mm (tip to tip). The images are all at the same scale. You might think #16 is scaled smaller than #18 (for example), but it is not. Note that the center hexagon is the same size in each image (although it also changes slightly as the crystal grows)

Esta câmera requer o filme Univex # 00, que é enrolado em bobinas com uma chave especial em forma de 'V' para girar.

Adapted from a recipe by Nigella Lawson, featuring chocolate, cream and, bizarrely, marsh mallows. The result, though, is superb — a smooth, indulgent, creamy consistency and surprisingly light. Served in dinky little espresso cups, perfect for photography. Back-lit high-key shot, with natural window light gives a lovely airy feel to the shot and combines really well with a shallow depth of field. Again, from the camera's metering point of view, the shot is over-exposed, as the camera meter really can't cope with this sort of lighting. I set up the camera, on a tripod, connected to a TV as a monitor and compose and focus (manually) the shot using the camera's 'live view' function. This allows me time to tweak the composition, whilst looking at a TV screen, rather than the camera's tiny LCD (it's necessary to set the camera's auto-power off to off or 30 mins or so). Exposure set on manual, I dial in the aperture I want — in this case, for a shallow depth of field, F2.5 (stopped down a little to reduce chromatic aberration (nasty purple highlights) from the cheaper Canon 50mm F1.8). I then set whatever shutter speed is required to bring the exposure up to what looks right, eyeballing it for the most part, I've learnt how the particular TV screen affects what the final shot will look like. In this case, a shutter speed of 1/8 sec was required. You have to be careful on a day with cloud and sun, as the natural light levels are constantly fluctuating. #mm_tips #puddingporn #dessertporn #chocolateporn #chocolate #chocolatepots #nigella #nigellarecipe #chocolates #highkey #foodphotography #pudding #foodstyles_gf #still_life #stilllife #markmakingdesign #most_deserving #photowall #all_shots #uk_photooftheday #icatching #bd #niftyfifty #bokeh #dofaddicts

Monochromatic Month is almost over! Only 2 more days left! There's still time to join the colorless fun! :)

Tip: Though I always have a pretty good idea when I'm shooting specifically for B&W (and plan accordingly with settings, light, etc), every now and then I'll begin processing a shot in Lightroom for black & white only to be surprised that it also has strong potential for working well in color (as mentioned in previous MM tips--you should always shoot in color and RAW format, then convert to monochrome). With that in mind, I found these shots appealing in both formats, so I've included the color version below for discussion and comparison. :)

Happy Thursday! Thank you all for your continued feedback & support!

It is a dark wet day outside so I'm looking closely at my indoor plants. The coral berry blooms almost all the time, but the blooms are tiny (like 5 or 6 mm tip to tip) and not very noticeable. The tiny reddish spots on the petals & sepals are often said to be black but they have a definitely reddish hue on mine.

The quote by Emily Dickinson made sense to me first time when I saw sunrise like this ! this shot is SOOC .

This location is a classic example of how a single location can be used for different kind of sunrise shots.. All 3 days I stayed at Udaipur i woke up to catch the sunrise and boy oh boy each day it was a exercise to come up with new idea to shoot, And it was not that difficult with nature doing its thing.. And on 3rd day i was shocked when i saw this sight which .... surprisingly i never noticed in past 2 days of shoot I never looked down at the city , was always stuck with the sun the cloud the birds and mountain.

But on 3rd day i look down at city and i see this sight of layers unfolding with the sunrise. and for a while I just lost all sense of time and place .. and just stood there going WOW OMG WOW !!

Part two: make sure you have what it takes. Literally. The LEGO elements it takes to copy the new Batman minifig are...

- a plain black head

- plain grey torso, arms, waist and legs

- black hands

and, which might be a tad harder to get...

- spare Batman mask (2012 version if you want your custom really accurate, the 2006-2008 variant is not ideal). By spare I mean one you can really give up as it is, because we will change it drastically!

- spare Batman cape

Further, the process requires several tools, including...

- black permanent marker (0,1 mm tip ideally). This is optional. You CAN take a single-hair brush with black paint.

- light grey model building colour matching Lego's blend. white and black combined works well too, especially because you can alter the tone to be the most close to Lego's.

- the single-hair brush mentioned above, or any other extremely fine brush, depending on how skilled you are with these. The thinner the brush, the easier it is to paint the light grey detail as you can add it spot by spot even better.

- warm gold pen or paint. This is needed to depict Batman's utility belt.

- flesh paint, for the face hole in the black of the head piece

- brown paint to make facial features such as cheekbones. Watering it down can assimilate it to the original tone if your brown is too dark, but be careful!

- a very sharp ade of approximately 5cm lenght. This ay differ between users, but this is my preference for cowl jobs, as this blade will transform our Batman mask from 2012 to 2015.

- sanding paper with VERY fine grains. This is optional, but will help drastically to make your improved cowl look like a molded part instead of carved.

Got what it takes? Stay tuned for part three, the basic torso layer.

Finally! I have been waiting to finish this frame for some time! Rex wanted a stainless rear triangle and nobody made stainless seat stays with a 10.5 mm tip that would work with the classic Keirin style track drop outs. Also the edges of the stainless Kalavinka dropouts are going to be polished so only a 10.5 tip will work. Joe and Scott at KVA stepped up and made it happen. It took a bit of work and some new tooling but it turned out great! Thanks guys!

If any one is interested they have a couple of pairs, they are limited at the moment, so get while you can!

The cover the book I publish, Charles Ponzi's autobiography. The cover design is by Aaron Lee, Florida graphics designer. This is the story of the world's most famous swindler as told in his own words. Over 50 years out of print, and scarce, Ponzi's autobiography is now available for your reading pleasure. www.amazon.com/Rise-Mr-Ponzi-Charles/dp/0963192442/ref=sr...

A quote from the book by Charles Ponzi about the legitimacy of his postal coupon scheme.

“People must have thought I had discovered the buried treasure of the Incas. Or Alladin’s lamp. If they gave a thought at all to the coupons, they must have got dizzy figuring how many of them I needed to justify what I was doing. In fact, my visible resources were then in excess of $5,000,000. Assuming I earned two cents on each coupon, I should have had to handle over 250,000,000 of them! It was absurd. There were not that many in the whole world. There had never been that many. And, it would have taken months to print them!

The Rise of Mr. Ponzi, By Charles Ponzi may be purchased on Amazon.com as a hardbound edition or an e-book. MM

TIPS ON AVOIDING PONZI SCHEMES....

Because of the $50 billion Bernie Madoff investment scandal, Ponzi schemes are receiving lots of news

coverage. However, Ponzi schemes aren’t new; they have been around since the 1800s. With Ponzi frauds regularly surfacing, it is worth your while to know how to recognize one. I’ll also explain the differences and similarities between Ponzi schemes and pyramid schemes.

Ponzi schemes are named after Charles Ponzi, a 1920’s Boston businessman who lured in investors with promises of a 50% return in 45 days if you bought one of his corporate promissory notes. Ponzi told Bostonians he would invest their money in international postal reply coupons, when in fact he didn’t have a real business operation and never intended to invest their money in a legitimate business.

His real plan was to “rob Peter to pay Paul.” He would simply pay investors their monthly interest with money he received from other investors.

With Ponzi schemes, as the number of new investors grow the supply of new investors available to solicit diminishes. Eventually the Ponzi bubble must burst under the pressure of meeting the promised interest payments to its ever-increasing investor base. While some early investors do receive interest payments, the newer investors lose all or most of their money when the scam is exposed. Again, that’s because there is no real business venture to generate legitimate income.

Unfortunately, Ponzi schemes can go on for years without detection. As long as investors receive their monthly interest payments they are happy and they don’t question the legitimacy of the alleged business operation.

Pyramid schemes are not typically investment schemes. They involve multi-level marketing opportunities. An illegal pyramid scheme relies on an organizational structure whereby compensation is derived primarily from recruiting others into the organization, rather than from the sale of goods or services. What differentiates a legal, multi-level marketing program from an illegal one is that a legal one generates profits mainly from the sale of merchandise.

Many illegal pyramids attempt to establish their legitimacy by purporting to sell a product. However, the merchandise or service to be sold is largely ignored. The pyramid scheme functions like a chain letter, and eventually collapses as participants try to recover their initial investment by recruiting more and more new investors from the ever decreasing number of prospects.

Finally, here are red flags of Ponzi and pyramid schemes with tips on how to avoid becoming a victim:

• You are provided with ‘insider’ or ‘secret’ information.

• The investment has an unusually high rate of return.

• You are pressured to invest.

• You are told the investment has no risk.

• You are unable to get regular reports on the status of your investment.

• It sounds too good to be true.

• Be leery of multi-level marketing opportunities that require large start-up costs.

• With multi-level marketing offers, be sure there is an actual product to sell.

• If there is a product, be certain there is a consumer market for the product.

• With multi-level marketing opportunities, be sure the sale of the product is the main focus of the marketing plan, not just bringing in new members.

The artwork from an article I wrote about Charles Ponzi and his scheme.

Some of the Pentel samples I received yesterday: 0.25 mm and 0.8 mm Slicci gel pens. I did not know that Slicci pens came in metallic colors with 0.8 mm tips. Blog entry.

Found at a lighted doorway and captured for studio photos. I found another at a different doorway of the same building as well--quite the night for them.

We've been playing around with making our own quilt tags. I inked this one with a Pigma Micron pen (black ink, 0.3 mm tip). The dump truck was drawn freehand while looking at a truck in the fabric prints used in the quilt.
