North American Aviation's T-6 Texan, a single-engine advanced trainer, trained pilots of the United States Army Air Forces, United States Navy, Royal Air Force and other air forces of the British Commonwealth during World War II and into the 1950s. it is also known as AT-6 by USAAC and USAAF designation -- SNJ to the United States Navy -- the Harvard to British Commonwealth air forces. US forces designated it the T-6 after 1962. It a popular warbird aircraft used for airshow demonstrations and static displays. It has even 'filled-in' as Jap Zeros in movies.
T-6 Texan, part of a formation flight; Since World War Two, the T-6 has been a regular at air shows... and has been "used" as a "stand-in" in the movies. In Tora! Tora! Tora! converted single-seat T-6s were painted in Japanese markings to resemble Mitsubishi Zeroes... but in "A Bridge Too Far" it represented the razorback Republic P-47 Thunderbolt. The Reno National Air Races has a class specifically for the T-6. The aircraft is known as a trainer... but it has bared its teeth in anger, armed with machine guns and bombs.
