This stunning Mink is called Malfoy and he loves his photograph being taken. He will happily pose for you late afternoon and really seems to enjoy the attention. He's a real favourite of mine. He's so so pretty.

It's inconceivable that there are still Mink farms which kill the young at six months old to make coats and eyelashes for those who are willing to pay.

The American Mink in Tromso Norway - - has been introduced to the country largely due to mink farming getaways

This American Mink is having a Mature Male Round Goby for Lunch. One less Invasive fish in the Lake Ontario.

The Round Goby is a small, bottom-dwelling invasive fish, native to the Black and Caspian seas in eastern Europe. It was first found in North America in 1990, in the St. Clair River north of Windsor, Ontario. Researchers believe the fish was brought to North America in the ballast water of ships from Europe. In less than a decade, the Round Goby has successfully spread through all five Great Lakes and has begun to invade inland waters.

The mink is looking in the direction of the woods that were behind the banks of this river, I saw them do this a handful of times during my many visits to find and photograph these weasels. Sometmes they would look directly at me but most of the time their real interest seemed to be behind me and way over my head at three top level.

Just a change up from Patagonia; earlier this summer I was stranded in Tromso Norway for a few days when SAS airlines went on strike - - I still managed a wildlife fix by walking along the city shoreline.

A couple of good birds and this friendly mink - - just shaking it off after a quick dip in the water

The mink is the most common water mammal predator (meat eater) in Minnesota. It can be found in nearly every wetland, lake, and creek in the state, including those in cities and towns. The mink is a versatile predator. Lithe and agile, it pursues its prey on land and in water.

I think this one is a male.

This is a cropped edit from one of my previous photos.

Heute meiner Frau vor die Linse gekommen! Wieder einmal auf der Brücke, bin mir nicht sicher ob es der amerikanische Nerz ist! Dieser soll auch im unteren Odertal seit ca. 2003 leben!

As I was sitting by the rocks along the coast of Maine, three minks ran right along beside me. I was then able to watch them play in the rocks and water for a long time. Once they got tired, they went to their den where they cuddled up and tried to sleep. I was so lucky to get to watch them for almost an hour.

Seeing a mink is a somewhat rare sight in western Washington. This shot is not quite as sharp as I had hoped but am sharing for the relative novelty.

The American mink differs from members of the genus Mustela (stoats and weasels), as well as the other members of Neogale, by its larger size and stouter form, which closely approach those of martens.

The mink was busy swimming under the river ice in search of a meal.

Special thanks to Josh Dudinetz and Earl Minnis for information on this location! I am still processing the grandeur and scale of this iconic stretch of railroad.

American Mink hunting in river before the freeze up

The last of my Mink photos. Hopefully see more soon.

The mink we have in Britain are not native here. They are American mink (Neovison vison), which originated from mink brought here for fur-farming.

In continental Europe, there is also a European mink (Mustela lutreola), a somewhat different species and now endangered. The European mink has apparently never existed in the British Isles.

A widespread modern misconception is that the UK’s wild population of American mink originated from mass releases of mink from fur farms by animal rights activists in the 1990s. Many people will remember these dramatic events for the sheer numbers of mink involved. In fact, the wild population was established decades earlier from multiple escapes (and perhaps deliberate releases) all over the country.
