My solution for on-axis fill flash with the 300mm f/4 IS. The flash hits the lens (even zoomed to 105mm) but it does not create a shadow on the subject.

Canon 40D with the Custom bracket CB Mini-RC which mounts the flash next to the lens. This lowers the profile of the setup and improves the balance. Velcro on top of the OC-E3 cable allows for the mounting of an Alienbees cybersync transmitter connected to the pc-sync port on the 40D.

All Time Low played a random show in Virginia Beach. I took the opportunity to meet with Jack and Alex and talk to them about Dear Jack. They also put some bracelets on for some shots.

Since I got my Custom brackets CB mini-RC, I wanted to use it with my BlackRapid DR-1 strap.
The mini-CB has a D-ring on the under side but it was no designed to be load bearing.
I consulted Custom brackets and they advised against using it to mount the camera strap.
Luckily Blackrapid has solved a similar issue with the Manfrotto rc2 plates by offering a replacement bolt (FastenR-T1) with a specially designed d-ring.
Unfortunately, the mini-RC and the FastenR-t1 are not compatible. The bolt has a 9x2mm ring around the base to fit the hole in the RC2 plate, which prevents the bolt from mounting in the mini-RC.
After emailing Custom brackets, Pat Muzila offered me to customize a bracket to fit the FastenR. Wow, great service! But since I already had the bracket and bolt, this solution was not very economic and environmentally friendly. Time for some DIY.
The mini-RC is made from high quality aluminum which is easy to work with when using a dremel and needle files. I covered the surface of the adapter with tape to prevent scratching and to mark out the location for the 9mm hole. I decided for a round hole instead of widening the entire slot. I determined the correct position for the hole by mounting the bracket to the 40D grip and marking out the position for the bolt.
